The Chick Embryo Metastasis Model
2003The growth and dissemination of malignant tumors continues to have a devastating impact on people throughout the United States and the rest of the world. In fact, it is estimated that well over a half a million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed per year (1).

Allograft reactivity in chick embryos
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1971AbstractKinetic studies with the splenomegaly assay and the in vivo antibody assay of marker allogeneic immunocompetent cells were made to ascertain when in embryonic development the capacity to actively reject foreign cells is manifested by the chick embryo.

Microangiography in explanted chick embryos
Microvascular Research, 1981Abstract A new method is described for explanation, vital microscopy, and microangiography with FITC-dextran injection in 43- to 76-hr embryos. The method has proved useful to visualize the embryonic microvasculature from precirculatory stages to beginning of the fourth day.

1973
Publisher Summary This chapter describes the culturing of chick embryo cells. For the ordinary tissue culture work, fertile eggs can be obtained from any local hatchery. For specialized work with avian tumor viruses, embryos of a particular genotype are often required.

Hypoglycemia in Malathion-treated chick embryos
Canadian Journal of Zoology, 1975Chick embryos were exposed to a teratogenic dose of Malathion at the 5-day incubation stage, and the effect of this treatment on blood sugar levels was studied from the 9th day of incubation to hatching. The Malathion caused a decrease in blood sugars and this hypoglycemia persisted throughout the incubation period until day 19.

Ventilatory chemosensitivity in the chick embryo
Respiratory Physiology & Neurobiology, 2003In the externally pipped chicken embryo, oxygen consumption through the chorioallantoic membrane (VO2CAM) ranged between 2 and 55% (mean approximately 24%) of that through the lungs (VO2lung). Hypercapnia (5'-10' of 2, 5, or 8% CO2) or mild hypoxia (15% O2) had minor effects on VO2, whereas moderate or severe hypoxia (10-5% O2) caused large drops of ...

RADIOIODINE METABOLISM IN THE CHICK EMBRYO
Endocrinology, 1953Many studies have been made of the histology of the thyroid gland at various stages in the development of the chick embryo. These studies, as well as several to detsrmine the age of the chick embryo at which biochemical differentiation or thyroid function begins, have recently been summarized by Moore (1950).

The chick-embryo in sanatorium practice
British Journal of Tuberculosis and Diseases of the Chest, 1948Summary An outline on most of the work relating to the growth of Myco, tuberculosis in the chick-embryo is given. A brief description of the development of a chickembryo is added. The technique of chorio-allantoic inoculation is described and the results given in a small number of trials.
