Identification of chicken anemia virus putative intergenotype recombinants

open access: yesVirology, 2007
Chicken anemia virus (CAV), the only member of the genus Gyrovirus in the family Circoviridae is the pathogen of chicken infectious anemia. It is unknown whether homologous recombination happens between CAV strains. In order to gain insight into this matter, we have performed a phylogenetic analysis of full-length CAV strains isolated to detect ...

Immunopathogenesis of chicken anemia virus infection

Developmental and Comparative Immunology, 2000
The immunopathogenesis of chicken anemia virus (CAV) infection is reviewed. The virus causes a disease in young chicks which is characterised by generalised lymphoid atrophy, increased mortality and severe anemia. The virus appears to target erythroid and lymphoid progenitor cells in the bone marrow and thymus respectively.

Effects of Chicken Anemia Virus on Macrophage Function in Chickens

Avian Diseases, 1993
One-day-old chicks were inoculated intramuscularly with chicken anemia virus (CAV). Four birds were killed at 7, 14, 21, 28, and 42 days postinoculation (PI), and macrophages were recovered from spleen and bone-marrow suspensions. These were tested for interleukin-1 (IL-1) production, Fc receptor expression, phagocytosis, and bactericidal activity ...

Assessing the efficacy of an inactivated chicken anemia virus vaccine

Vaccine, 2015
Chicken anemia virus (CAV) is an immunosuppressive virus that causes chicken infectious anemia (CIA) which is a highly contagious avian disease. CAV causes major economic losses in the poultry industry worldwide. The current CAV vaccine is a live attenuated strain administered in the drinking water that risks horizontal infection of other chickens. The
