Cardiac implications of chicken wooden breast myopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology
IntroductionWooden breast disease is a myopathy of the skeletal muscle in chickens of commercial breeding. Although the underlying pathophysiology remains unknown, we and others have previously shown that affected broilers display varying degrees of fibrosis, extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, inflammation, and alterations in various molecular ...

Colloidal Gold Immunochromatographic Assay for Rapid Detection of Carbadox and Cyadox in Chicken Breast

open access: yesACS Omega, 2020
Abused or misused carbadox (CBX) and cyadox (CYA) in animal feed may cause food safety concerns, threatening human health. Here, we describe the design of a novel hapten for preparation of a monoclonal antibody against CBX and CYA simultaneously.

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Wooden breast lesions in broiler chickens in the UK [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Record, 2016
A new condition causing significant economic losses due to lesions in the pectoralis major muscle of commercial broiler chickens has been recently reported in Finland. The condition has been named wooden breast and is characterized by its gross and histological appearance.

Influence of ultrasound-assisted sodium bicarbonate marination on the curing efficiency of chicken breast meat.

open access: yesUltrasonics sonochemistry, 2019
Effects of ultrasound combined with sodium bicarbonate assisted curing (USC), sodium bicarbonate assisted curing (SC) and traditional wetting curing (WC) on curing efficiency and tenderization of the chicken breast meat were investigated.

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Chemometric modelling to relate antioxidants, neutral lipid fatty acids and flavour components in chicken breast [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Relationships among quality factors in retailed free-range, corn-fed, organic, and conventional chicken breasts (9) were modeled using chemometric approaches.

Adenosine‐to‐inosine editing of miR‐200b‐3p is associated with the progression of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A‐to‐I editing of miRNAs, particularly miR‐200b‐3p, contributes to HGSOC progression by enhancing cancer cell proliferation, migration and 3D growth. The edited form is linked to poorer patient survival and the identification of novel molecular targets.

Antimicrobial Potential of Plastic Films Incorporated with Sage Extract on Chicken Meat

open access: yesFoods, 2021
The function of packaging is crucial in the maintenance of fresh meat product quality. This study aimed to assess the efficiency of six films added with coatings 2379L/220 and 2379L/221 (containing sage extracts) to inhibit Salmonella typhimurium ...

Polarization-gated imaging techniques based on time-resolved Stokes vectors for filament tissues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
We report the discovery of using various time-resolved Stokes vector components for more efficient imaging of filament tissues. In particular, the Stokes vector components S2 and S3 were found more useful, compared with the other two components. The time-
