Chondrodystrophia in chicken embryos.
During the routine examination of chick embryos which had died during incubation, we found in 1923 several embryos exhibiting a striking abnormality resembling the condition known in mammals as Chondrodystrophia foetais (Kaufman).∗ As far as our knowledge of the literature reaches, chondrodystrophia is here reported for the first time in bird embryos ...

ATZ‐1 promotes DNA replication efficiency to maintain normal meiotic function
Absence of ATZ‐1 interferes with meiotic DNA replication and cell cycle function via CHK‐1. This causes downstream defects associated with DNA damage and genomic integrity. Taken together, this study suggests that ATZ‐1 influences DNA replication efficiency and cell cycle function to maintain normal meiotic function.

The presence of biotin‐binding avidin proteins in fish and their biological significance are poorly characterized. We cataloged fish avidins and demonstrate that they are widely present and evolutionarily conserved. We created avd knockout zebrafish and show that zebavidin is dispensable for development and that resistance of avd knockout embryos in ...

Somite formation in the chicken embryo
Somites are epithelial blocks of paraxial mesoderm that define the vertebrate embryonic segments. They are responsible for imposing the metameric pattern observed in many tissues of the adult such as the vertebrae, and they give rise to most of the axial skeleton and skeletal muscles of the trunk.

CELL BLOCKADE IN NEWCASTLE DISEASE OF CHICKENS AND CHICKEN EMBRYOS [PDF]
The problem of cell blockade or interference has been studied using Newcastle disease of chickens as a model. Embryos may be protected against the uniformly lethal effect of the virus by previous inoculation with ultraviolet-irradiated virus. It was necessary to use 0.5 to 1 mg.

The C‐terminal domain of yeast Arginyltransferase1 is essential for its catalytic activity
Arginyltransferase 1 (Ate1), a eukaryotic enzyme, catalyses arginylation, transferring arginine from tRNA‐Arg to the amino terminus of the target protein. Overexpression of Ate1 in yeast is lethal and is dependent on arginylation. This study elucidates how mutations in the cofactor‐binding and active site of Ate1 and truncation of its structural ...

EPIDEMIOLOGICAL STUDIES OF PSEUDOMONAS AERUGINOSA IN CHICKENS, FISH AND HUMAN [PDF]
28 (11.2%) isolates of pseudomonas aeruginosa were detected from 250 dead chicken embryos in addition 20(4.9%) isolates of the same organism were recovered from 406 examined dead chickens collected from differ ent sources at Assiut Governorate, also 23 ...
