Tuberculosis Susceptibility and Inbreeding Depression Hinder Ex Situ Conservation in a Critically Endangered Rainforest Bird

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Captive breeding can be a key component of species conservation strategies, but also exposes these rare species to novel environments including the pathogen landscape. The critically endangered white‐winged wood duck (WWWD) Asarcornis scutulata has experienced substantial population declines, local extirpations and fragmentation of its former ...

Induced breeding of knife fish, Notopterus notopterus, using pituitary gland extract, human chorionic gonadotropin, and luteinizing hormone releasing hormone‐analog hormones

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract This study was performed to determine the efficiency of various hormones on the ovulation of knife fish, Notopterus notopterus, in captivity. In total, 81 fish were grouped into nine treatments with three replicates, maintaining the sex ratio 1:2 (male to female).

Citizen science reveals host‐switching in louse flies and keds (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) during a period of anthropogenic change

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 305-322, June 2026.
A study of louse flies in the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, and Ireland found 212 different interactions between Hippoboscidae and their hosts, of which 70 were previously unrecorded. No louse flies were found on aquatic species of birds. Host‐switching to gulls (Laridae) has occurred during a period in which these species have started relying on ...

Update of the risk assessment on dioxins and dioxin‐like PCBs in feed and food

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 24, Issue 6, June 2026.
Abstract The European Commission asked EFSA to update its 2018 risk assessment on polychlorinated dibenzo‐p‐dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and dioxin‐like polychlorinated biphenyls (DL‐PCBs) in feed and food, based on the 2022 WHO Toxic Equivalency Factors (WHO2022‐TEFs).

Biowaste‐Derived Catalysts for Sustainable Electrochemical Water Splitting: A Pathway to Circular Bioeconomy

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 10, 27 May 2026.
Overview of biowaste‐derived electrocatalysts, including precursor selection, conversion and fabrication strategies, structure–activity relationships, and hydrogen evolution reaction/oxygen evolution reaction/overall water‐splitting performance for sustainable hydrogen production. The accelerating global pursuit of carbon neutrality has intensified the
