Compensating restrictive fisheries management measures: distribution of improved cocks to Kainji Lake communities 1997-2001 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Nigeria-German Kainji Lake Fisheries Promotion Project (KLFPP) promoted the distribution of genetically improved cocks to the Kainji Lake (Nigeria) fishing communities aiming to compensate for possible short-term income losses due to the ...

Fasting and Refeeding Mediated Phospholipid Remodeling Plays an Important Role in Improving Meat Quality of Aged Laying Hens

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explored fasting‐induced physiological remodeling effects on meat quality in aged laying hens. Fasting for 15 days (F15) significantly reduced abdominal fat, intermuscular fat width, subcutaneous fat thickness, and liver index versus pre‐fasting (F0) (p < 0.05), which recovered post‐refeeding.

Towards animal oriented rearing methods in organic production systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
One of the foundations of organic animal production systems is that animals are kept in a more natural way. In terms of housing, animals get more space, have access to outside areas and are fed organic rations.

Heat Stress in Quail: Impacts on Health and Productivity, and Mitigation Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Heat stress disrupts physiological homeostasis in quail, inducing oxidative stress, immune dysregulation, and metabolic imbalance, which impair growth, reproduction, product quality, and welfare. Integrating nutritional, environmental, and genetic–epigenetic strategies enhances thermotolerance, sustains productivity, and supports climate‐smart quail ...

Applied Model of Nutrient Oxidation in Male Broilers Reared Under Different Temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Effects of the environmental temperatures on nutrient oxidation were evaluated in male broiler chickens. The chickens were allocated into twelve cages with six chickens per cage during the first week and three chickens in the ...

Scientific Opinion on the safety and efficacy of Optiphos® (6‐phytase) as a feed additive for chickens and turkeys for fattening, chickens reared for laying, turkeys reared for breeding, laying hens, other birds for fattening and laying, weaned piglets, pigs for fattening and sows

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2011
Abstract The additive Optiphos® is a preparation of 6–phytase produced by a genetically modified strain of Pichia pastoris; it is presented in solid (G/CT) and liquid (L) forms ensuring 4000 OTU/g and 8000 OTU/mL, respectively. This product is intended for use in chickens and turkeys for fattening, chickens reared for laying, turkeys reared for ...

Effect of Cyclic Heat Exposure on the Growth Performance and Metabolism of Broilers Fed Palm Kernel Meal

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
The aim of our study is to evaluate the interaction between HS and the incorporation of PKM in broiler chicken diets, as well as its effect on growth performance and metabolism. Based on the results obtained, PKM supplementation failed to mitigate the adverse effects of heat stress in broiler chickens. ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the

Scientific Opinion on the safety and efficacy of Kemzyme® Plus Liquid (endo‐1,3(4)‐beta‐glucanase, endo‐1,4‐beta‐glucanase, alpha‐amylase and endo‐1,4‐beta‐xylanase) as a feed additive for poultry species and ornamental birds

open access: yesEFSA Journal, 2015
The additive Kemzyme® Plus Liquid is an enzyme preparation with four glycosyl hydrolases to be used in poultry species and ornamental birds. The Panel on Additives and Products or Substances used in Animal Feed (FEEDAP) considered that the additive is ...

Gut Health in Ostriches (Struthio camelus): Insights Into Intestinal Structure, Functions, Microbiome, and Improvement Strategies

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Our paper systematically reviews the intestinal structure, function, and microbiota of ostriches, along with strategies for improving their gut health. We analyze how these factors collectively influence intestinal homeostasis and ostrich welfare, emphasizing probiotics as a promising intervention to enhance gut health, boost population well‐being, and
