Acari, Laelapidae (ectoparasitic mites), central and southern Chile

open access: yesCheck List, 2010
Laelapidae mites include ectoparasites of small mammals. The fauna of mites of many Neotropical areas is still understudied, and such is the case of Chile. We report the results of a survey carried out in central and southern Chile: Acanthochela chilensis Ewing 1933 is reported from Dromiciops gliroides Thomas 1894; Lukoschus maresi Radovsky and ...

Habronyx Foerster (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Anomaloninae) in Andean and Neantarctic South Americawith description of new species from Bolivia and Chile [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Habronyx Foerster occurs in all regions except the Afrotropical and parasitizes lepidopterous larvae (Geometridae, Noctuidae, Saturniidae, Sphingidae, Psychidae). Habronyx albifrons (Spinola) inhabits neantartic Chile and southern Argentina.

RONIN/HCF1‐TFEB Axis Protects Against D‐Galactose‐Induced Cochlear Hair Cell Senescence Through Autophagy Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
D‐galactose (D‐gal) induced inner ear hair cell senescence by inhibiting TFEB transcription. RONIN/HCF1 promotes TFEB transcription to prevent cochlear HCs from D‐gal‐induced senescence through autophagy activation. Abstract Age‐related hearing loss is characterized by senescent inner ear hair cells (HCs) and reduced autophagy.

Modeling of stress transfer in the Coquimbo region of central Chile [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, 2006
We study the seismicity and stress transfer in the Coquimbo region of central Chile, where an exceptional series of more than 12 earthquakes of magnitudes from 6 to 7.6 has occurred since July 1997. In this area, the oceanic Nazca plate is subducted under the continental lithosphere of South America.

piR‐RCC Suppresses Renal Cell Carcinoma Progression by Facilitating YBX‐1 Cytoplasm Localization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PIWI‐interacting RNAs (piRNAs), a novel category of small non‐coding RNAs, have been implicated in the development of various diseases. This study explores the tumor‐suppressive mechanism of a downregulated piRNA (designated piR‐RCC) in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), and provides a delivery strategy targeting RCC tumor by constructing a cell membrane ...

Network Desynchronization with Sine Waves: from Synchrony to Asynchrony by Periodic Stimulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Exogenous alternating current fields are explored and interact with cerebral cortex slow waves in vitro and in silico. Varying frequency and amplitude of sine waves result in distinct network dynamics, from phase‐locking and entrainment to desynchronization. These responses occupy specific regions within the parameter space.

Heavy metals in rivers and soils of central Chile

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1998
Industrial and domestic waste waters in Chile are discharged without previous treatment into rivers and other inland waters which are used to irrigate agricultural lands. The present study reports on results obtained when analyzing inland waters for Cd, Cu, Zn, Hg and As. Copper content was found to be high in most of the rivers studied and its sources

Engineering Electron Transfer Flux between Cytochrome P450 Enzyme and P450 Reductase to Enhance Serotonin Production in Escherichia Coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The electron transfer flux in CPR‐P450 catalytic system is systematically engineered through: i) enhancing electron transfer rate by redesigning the putative electron transfer pathway of CPR; ii) improving electron‐receiving rate by evolving the heme domain of tryptophan‐5‐hydroxylase (T5H); iii) enlarging electron supply by fine‐tuning NADPH synthesis.

Characterization of the Chilean financial cycle, early warning indicators and implications for macro-prudential policies

open access: yesLatin American Journal of Central Banking, 2021
From the perspective of an emerging country – Chile – we analyze the recommendations of the Basel Committee of Banking Supervision (BCBS) regarding the design and implementation of indicators to guide countercyclical capital buffer (CCyB) policy ...
