The use of phenological data to calculate chilling units in Olea europaea L. in relation to the onset of reproduction

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2001
The aim of this study was to develop a practical method to evaluate the effective relationship between the amount of winter chilling and the response expressed as the spring reproductive re-starting dates in the olive (Olea europaea L.). Two olive cultivars growing in a special olive orchard in Umbria (central Italy) were studied over a 3-year period ...

Chill unit models and recent changes in the occurrence of Winter chill and Spring frost in the United Kingdom

The Journal of Horticultural Science and Biotechnology, 2006
SummaryFollowing concern that a trend towards milder Winters may have a detrimental impact on bud break and fruit quality, we have investigated the choice of existing chill accumulation model that best explains year-to-year differences in the spread in flowering date in soft fruit, and have characterised the changes in Winter chill that have occurred ...

Studies on aeration with refrigerated air—III. Chilling of wheat with a modified chilling unit

Journal of Stored Products Research, 1974
Abstract Two trials on the cooling of grain with refrigerated air are described. The chilling unit had the fan positioned after the evaporator to lower relative humidity of the cooled air entering the grain. A bin containing 699 metric tonnes of wheat was cooled in summer from 30–37°C to 18–19°C in 160 hr at an energy consumption of 4·6 kW/hr/tonne ...

Modeling and validation of an active chilled beam terminal unit

Journal of Building Engineering, 2019
Abstract In this paper, a simplified hybrid model is proposed for an active chilled beam (ACB) terminal unit. Based on the conservation equations of mass and energy, the model demonstrates the air entrainment characteristics in the air chamber and the heat transfer process in cooling coil.
