Biological chiral recognition: The substrate's perspective

Chirality, 2005
A novel stereocenter-recognition (SR) model has been proposed recently for describing the stereoselectivity of biological and other macromolecules towards substrates that have multiple stereocenters, based on the topology of substrate stereocenters (Sundaresan and Abrol, Prot Sci 11:1330-1339, 2002).

A vivid model of chiral recognition

Chirality, 1989
AbstractHands can be used to demonstrate the three‐point model of chiral recognition. The points of attachment are thumb, forefinger, and middle finger. This vivid model has the advantages of simplicity, perspicuity, and availability at any time, although two persons are necessary.

Chiral recognition in amyloid fiber growth

Journal of Peptide Science, 2016
Insoluble amyloid fibers represent a pathological signature of many human diseases. To treat such diseases, inhibition of amyloid formation has been proposed as a possible therapeutic strategy. d‐Peptides, which possess high proteolytic stability and lessened immunogenicity, are attractive candidates in this context.

Enantioselective Recognition by Chiral Supramolecular Gels

Chemistry – An Asian Journal, 2016
AbstractChiral supramolecular gels, in which small organic molecules self‐assemble into chiral nanostructures and entangle each other to immobilize solvents through various noncovalent interactions, can work as a matrix for enantioselective recognition on chiral analytes.

Assessing chiral self-recognition using chiral stationary phases

Tetrahedron, 2011
Chiral stationary phases were synthesized and their ability to separate racemic precursors from which they were derived was assessed. Taken in conjunction with homochiral recognition previously observed in the solid state, the results of this study reveal that a geometrically controlling π–π interaction has a profound influence on molecular recognition.

Chiral recognition via abundances of mixed chiral clusters

International Journal of Mass Spectrometry, 2019
When chiral molecules form clusters in the gas phase their abundance often exhibits pronounced chiral effects. In this work we pose the question of whether and how this phenomena can be used for chiral recognition: whether by mixing a solution of a test molecule of unknown enantiomeric excess with a known homochiral probe molecule and measuring the ...

Chiral recognition of a 3D chiral nanoporous metal–organic framework

Chemical Communications, 2013
Some racemates including alcohol, ketone, flavone, phenol, base, and amide racemates etc. were successfully separated by using a 3D chiral nanoporous metal-organic framework (MOF) as a new chiral stationary phase in HPLC. The experimental results show that the chiral MOF possesses excellent recognition ability for various racemates, and indicate that ...

NMR studies of chiral recognition by cyclodextrins

Chirality, 2003
AbstractChiral recognition by cyclodextrins is of considerable importance, especially for pharmaceutical industry, in view of the possible side effects of the second enantiometer of chiral drugs. In general, it manifests itself in all NMR parameters (chemical shifts, coupling constants, NOE and ROE effects, and relaxation rates) on one hand.
