An air‐stable, easily prepared, bifunctional Cu(II)/imidazolium complex enables highly enantioselective α‐alkylation of 1,3‐dicarbonyls with outstanding productivity (TON up to 1740). Highlights include broad electrophile scope spanning π‐activated and nonactivated reagents, stereo‐retentive allylation, simple catalyst synthesis, and efficient catalyst

Overcrowded Alkene Photo‐Redox‐Switches Based on Quinolinium/Carbene Building Blocks
A modular synthesis of a new class of photo‐ and redox‐switches is described based on the combination of quinolinium salts and carbenes. Photochemical switching allows to selectively switch between folded E/Z isomers, while electrochemical switching allows to change between neutral, radical cation and dicationic oxidation states, which are all isolable

Dynamic Control of Nucleic Acids Self‐Assembly and Expression Using Photoswitches
We review here the recent progress made in the design of molecular photoswitches, and highlight their implementation for the dynamic control over nucleic acids self‐assembly and expression. ABSTRACT Synthetic nucleic acids have become readily available and now constitute versatile building blocks in materials science—where they can be used to engineer ...

Aminocatalytically generated isobenzofulvenes and 3‐oxidopyridinium betaines act as ambiphilic reaction partners in orbital‐symmetry‐allowed [10+4] cycloadditions or formally symmetry‐forbidden concerted thermal [10+6] cycloadditions. The reaction furnishes three cycloadducts: one [10+4] cycloadduct and two regioisomeric [10+6] cycloadducts.

Quinolin‐4‐ones were converted to chloroquinolinium salts, allowing formation of axially chiral aminoquinolinium salts via an enantioretentive SNAr reaction with a variety of amine nucleophiles. The salts have a high rotational barrier, with a racemization half‐life of ∼1000s of years.
