Nitrogen sorption as a tool for the characterisation of polysaccharide aerogels [PDF]
Supercritically dried aerogels of several polysaccharides (chitin, chitosan, alginate, alginic acid, k- carrageenan, and agar) have been characterised by physisorption ofN2. Surface areas as high as 570m2 g−1 have been measured.

The Synthesis of Chitin-g-Poly(vinyl acetate) Copolymers with a Redox Initiator
Vinyl acetate monomer was graft polymerized onto chitin with a redox initiator, cerium ammonium nitrate. Both the graft copolymerization and emulsion polymerization of pure poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) were observed during the reaction and a stable ...

Electrodeposition is explored as an innovative and scalable approach to fabricate standardized and highly piezoelectric chitosan films. Chitosan deposition is driven onto gold‐coated silicon plates by an applied voltage. Films’ piezoelectricity is clearly proved and correlated to the material structural order.

Using Synthetic Glycans to Investigate Anti‐Glycan Antibodies and Explore Their Medical Potential
Anti‐glycan antibodies are essential in health and disease. Access to novel glycan structures paves the way for progress in antibody profiling for biomarker discovery, antibody development, and vaccine design. We summarize the strategies to synthesize and utilize synthetic glycans for the development and application of anti‐glycan antibodies in basic ...

A polyphasic approach to the study of chitinolytic bacteria in soil [PDF]
Chitin is the most abundant nitrogen-containing polymer in nature, with >1x10^10 tonnes produced annually in terrestrial and marine habitats. Chitinolytic bacteria are able to degrade this recalcitrant substrate through a multiplicity of chitinases.

Chitin-binding capacity of rLdpA.
After incubation of serially diluted rLdpA (2.5–40 μg) with chitin (1 mg) in 100 μL of PBS, rLdpA in the supernatant (sup.) and sediment (sed.) was evaluated by SDS-PAGE. (TIF)

Porous Carbon Materials for Carbon Dioxide Capture
This work aims to address the current status and challenges associated with the regulation of pore structures, as well as the influence of pore structures on CO2 capture. Systematic quantitative analysis of structure–property relationships, combined with machine learning approaches, can effectively evaluate the contributions of structural ...
