Chitinolytic enzymes from endophytic fungi

Fungal Diversity, 2010
Fungal endophytes isolated from leaves of tree species of the forests of Western Ghats, southern India were screened for chitin modifying enzyme production. Thirty-one of the one hundred and sixty two isolates were positive for chitinase, while different isolates produced isoforms of the enzyme. Many isolates produced chitosanase that acted on chitosan

Chitinolytic enzymes of pathogenic and ectomycorrhizal fungi

Mycological Research, 1995
Four ectomycorrhizal basidiomycetes ( Boletinus cavipes, Paxillus involutus, Suillus variegatus and Pisolithus tinctorius ), two pathogenic root-infecting basidiomycetes ( Heterobasidion annosum and Armillaria ostoyae ) and the oomycete Phytophthora cinnamomi were screened for chitinolytic activity in liquid culture.

Partial characterization of chitinolytic enzymes from Streptomyces albidoflavus

Letters in Applied Microbiology, 1995
Streptomyces albidoflavus NRRL B-16746 secreted three types of chitinolytic enzymes: N-acetyl-glucosaminidase, chitobiosidase and endochitinase. Optimal activity for all three types of enzymes occurred at pH 4-6; however 55-74% of the chitobiosidase and endochitinase activity was detectable at pH 8-10.

Chitinolytic Enzymes: Catalysis, Substrate Binding, and their Application

Current Protein & Peptide Science, 2000
After the epoch-making report on X-ray crystal structure of a lysozyme-N-acetylglucosamine trisaccharide complex in 1967, catalytic mechanisms of glycosyl hydrolases have been discussed with reference to the lysozyme mechanism. From the recent findings of chitinolytic enzymes, however, the enzymes were found to have catalytic and substrate binding ...

Induction and Purification of Beauveria bassiana Chitinolytic Enzymes

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1993
Abstract Chitinolytic enzyme production and induction in an entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana (an isolate from a praying mantis) was investigated in liquid culture medium. Extracellular chitinolytic proteins could be induced in ca. 20 hr after washed mycelia were transferred to a medium containing colloidal chitin as a sole carbon and ...

Chitinolytic enzymes fromClostridium aminovalericum: Activity screening and purification

Folia Microbiologica, 2004
A strain isolated from the feces of takin was identified as Clostridium aminovalericum. In response to various types of chitin used as growth substrates, the bacterium produced a complete array of chitinolytic enzymes: chitinase ('endochitinase'), exochitinase, beta-N-acetylglucosaminidase, chitosanase and chitin deacetylase.

Structure and function of chitinolytic enzymes

2003
The recent work on a variety of family 18 chitonolytic enzymes has yielded important data concerning the structure, substrate-binding, catalysis, inhibitor-binding and even dynamics. These data have been useful in helping to better understand the roles of various types of chitinases in chitin hydrolysis, to rationally engineer the properties of these ...

Chitinolytic enzymes in the digestive system of marine fishes

Marine Biology, 1979
Chitinase, exo-N-acetyl-β-D-glycosaminidase (NAGase) and lysozyme activities were assayed in the digestive tract of 6 species of marine fishes: Myxine glutinosa (cyclostome), Chimaera monstrosa (holocephalan), Squalus acanthias, Etmopterus spinax, Raja radiata (elasmobranchs) and Coryphaenoides rupestris (teleost).

Structural Insights into Chitinolytic Enzymes and Inhibition Mechanisms of Selective Inhibitors

Current Pharmaceutical Design, 2014
Chitin biodegradation is linked to fungi cell differentiation, nematode egg hatching, arthropods morphogenesis and human defense against malaria and other pathogens infection as well. Two classes of enzymes for chitin degradation include glycosyl hydrolase (GH) family 18 chitinases and family 20 β-N-acetyl-D-hexosaminidases.

Comparison of chitinolytic enzymes from an alkaline, hypersaline lake and an estuary

Environmental Microbiology, 2006
Summary We examined the genetic and physiological characteristics of chitin degrading enzymes expressed by fosmids cloned from two strains of chitinolytic gammaproteobacteria isolated from alkaline, hypersaline Mono Lake, California; and from a metagenomic library derived ...
