Responses of Chlamydomonas reinhardtii to peroxyacetyl nitrate
Environmental Research, 1969Abstract Peroxyacetyl nitrate inhibits autotrophic and heterotrophic growth of Chlamydomonas . Experimental results show both photosynthesis and respiration are adversely affected by PAN. Photosynthesis is more severely damaged than is respiration, when measured as percentage of reduction and as the ability to recover after treatment.

The regulations of glycolate metabolism in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - General Subjects, 1969Abstract When Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was grown on air supplemented with 1% CO2, the cells excreted glycolate during photosynthesis. When grown on air (0.03% CO2), the cells would not excrete glycolate. Isonicotinyl hydrazide, an inhibitor of the glycolate pathway, when added to air-grown cells, forced excretion of glycolate.

Journal of Cell Science, 1989ABSTRACTAlthough largely bilaterally symmetric, the two sides of the unicellular alga Chlamydomonas rein-hardtii can be distinguished by the location of the single eyespot. When viewed from the anterior end, the eyespot is always closer to one flagellum than the other, and located at an angle of approximately 45° clockwise of the flagellar plane.
