Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Effect of distance from sea on chloride aggressiveness in concrete structures in brazilian coastal site

open access: yesMateriales de Construccion, 2003
The distance of concrete structures from the sea is an important aspect when studying the deleterious effect of airborne salinity in marine environment zone.

Corrosion Diagnostics Performed on Cores Drilled from Concrete Structures, Using the Laboratory Simulation of Temperature and Relative Humidity Impact

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
This paper presents an improved procedure for conducting diagnostics tests on corrosion in reinforced concrete structures. This method consists in drilling cylindrical concrete cores with fragments of secondary steel reinforcement (e.g., spacer bars ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

PROBABILISTIC ANALYSIS OF DEPTH AND CARBONATION FRONT DEVELOPMENT IN CONCRETE OF MARINE STRUCTURES

open access: yesНаука и техника, 2018
On the coast of the Russian Far East the climate is monsoon, which is most pro-nounced in the south and northeast waning. Seasonal change of oceanic and continental influence is reflected in the nature of the climate: summer is moderatelywarm and rainy ...

Oxygen scavenging activity of smart colophony microcapsules containing nitrite corrosion inhibitors for steel reinforced concrete

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2022
In this study, the electrochemical performance of microcapsules (MCs) containing NaNO2 corrosion inhibitors for steel reinforcements was studied in 0.6 M chloride contaminated simulated concrete pore solutions (SCPS) with varying pH for a period of 28 ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...
