On the role of chlorophyll b in ontogenetic adaptations of plants
Biology Bulletin Reviews, 2014Plants of the barley mutant chlorina3613, which completely lacks chlorophyll b, were investigated over their full life cycle growing in the field under natural light conditions. At various stages of the life cycle, plants were shaded for one week, and the effects of the shading on the further growth were monitored after restoration of the natural light

The effect of naphthacene on the photo-oxidation of chlorophyll b
Journal of the Chemical Society B: Physical Organic, 1968Naphthacene has been found to protect chlorophyll b from photo-oxidation, but to a lesser extent than does β-carotene. During this energy transfer process, naphthacene is converted into its peroxide, which reacts with chlorophyll b, thereby accelerating the rate of decay of chlorophyll b.

Electronic structure of the enolate anion of chlorophyll b
Tetrahedron Letters, 2005Abstract The enolate anion of chlorophyll b (Chl b) has been synthesized under deoxygenated conditions and its electronic structure characterized for the first time by 1H NMR and electronic absorption spectroscopy. The formation of the enolate anion caused a marked perturbation to the 18 π-electron [18]diazaannulene aromatic pathway of Chl b.

Chlorophyll b in the eastern North Pacific Ocean
Deep Sea Research Part A. Oceanographic Research Papers, 1981Abstract Chlorophyll b concentrations were estimated in areas of the eastern North Pacific Ocean using a high pressure liquid chromatography system. The pigment was clearly detected in 72% of the samples analyzed, but its concentration is relatively low compared to chlorophyll a.

The relationship between chlorophyll b and pigment-protein complex II
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Bioenergetics, 1974Abstract 1. 1. Sodium dodecyl benzene sulphonate (SDBS) extracts have been prepared from higher plant and Euglena chloroplasts having varying chlorophyll a : chlorophyll b ratios. Chloroplasts from a mutant of barley lacking chlorophyll b have also been examined. 2. 2.

Chlorophyll b in angiosperms: Functions in photosynthesis, signaling and ontogenetic regulation
Journal of Plant Physiology, 2015Chlorophyll b (Chlb) is an antenna chlorophyll. The binding of Chlb by antenna proteins is crucial for the correct assembly of the antenna complexes in thylakoid membranes. Since the levels of the proteins of major and minor antenna are affected to different extents by Chlb binding, the availability of Chlb influences the composition and the size of ...

Stomata control is changed in a chlorophyll b-free barley mutant
Functional Plant Biology, 2017The barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) chlorina f2 3613 mutant exhibits low photosynthesis and slow growth. This results from downregulation of the levels of photosynthetic antenna proteins caused by the absence of chl b, the major regulator of photosynthetic antennae in land plants.

Zur physiologischen Bedeutung von Chlorophyll b
Biochemie und Physiologie der Pflanzen, 1974Summary In order to investigate the function of chlorophyll b three mutants without chlorophyll b were compared with the original form of Hordeum vulgare cv. Donaria. They show decreases in dry matter production, in chlorophyll a content, and in grain yield.

Chlorophyll B in Preparations of Photosystems I and II
1972Chlorophyll b (C b ) is known to be mainly associated with photosystem 2, whereas there are some indications that its occurrence may even be restricted to this particular system. For a review see HIND & OLSEN (1968). In an earlier paper (THOMAS & BRETSCHNEIDER 1970) approximate red absorption spectra of C b in spinach chloroplast fragments at 77°K have
