Chlorophyll synthetase cannot synthesize chlorophyll a′

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1994
Chlorophyll synthetase catalyzes the last step of chlorophyll biosynthesis, namely prenylation (esterification) of chlorophyllide with phytyl diphosphate or geranylgeranyl diphosphate. During investigation of various chlorophyllide derivatives as potential substrates we observed lower esterification with increasing percentages of chlorophyllide a′ in ...

Energy transfer between Chlorophyll C and Chlorophyll A

Biophysical Chemistry, 1973
Abstract Spectral properties of solutions containing mixtures of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll c are investigated. The yield of excitation energy migration from chlorophyll c to chlorophyll a is obtained ranging from 23 to 48% dependent on the used dye concentrations. The back transfer from chlorophyll a to chlorophyll c is negligible.

A Red-Shifted Chlorophyll

Science, 2010
Chlorophyll Sees Red Among the first facts students learn about the natural world is that plants owe their green color to the pigment chlorophyll. There have actually been a handful of slightly different chlorophyll variants uncovered over the years, and Chen

A viewpoint: Why chlorophyll a?

Photosynthesis Research, 2009
Chlorophyll a (Chl a) serves a dual role in oxygenic photosynthesis: in light harvesting as well as in converting energy of absorbed photons to chemical energy. No other Chl is as omnipresent in oxygenic photosynthesis as is Chl a, and this is particularly true if we include Chl a(2), (=[8-vinyl]-Chl a), which occurs in Prochlorococcus, as a type of ...
