Investigation of chlorophyll degradation by tetracycline
Chemosphere, 2019Antibiotics represent a novel type of environment pollutants which modify chlorophyll content in plants. Spectroscopic methods were employed to investigate the effect of tetracycline on chlorophyll degradation. Changes in absorbance and fluorescence demonstrated that tetracycline reaction with chlorophyll results in the formation of pheophytin, which ...

Annual Review of Plant Physiology and Plant Molecular Biology, 1999
▪ Abstract Although the loss of green color in senescent leaves and ripening fruits is a spectacular natural phenomenon, research on chlorophyll breakdown has been largely neglected until recently. This review summarizes knowledge about the fate of chlorophyll in degreening tissues that has been gained during the past few years. Structures of end- and

Improved Method To Track Chlorophyll Degradation
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2001An analytical method capable of identifying >30 chlorophyll-related compounds in plant extracts has been developed. The method employs liquid chromatography coupled to UV-vis, MS, and MS/MS detection. It can be applied without modification to analyze natural chlorophyll degradation products and other metalloporphyrines.

CHLOROPHYLL DEGRADATION DURING SENESCENCE
Annual Review of Plant Biology, 2006The catabolic pathway of chlorophyll (Chl) during senescence and fruit ripening leads to the accumulation of colorless breakdown products (NCCs). This review updates an earlier review on Chl breakdown published here in 1999 ( 69 ). It summarizes recent advances in the biochemical reactions of the pathway and describes the characterization of new NCCs ...

Chlorophyll Degradation and Its Physiological Function
Plant And Cell PhysiologyAbstract Research on chlorophyll degradation has progressed significantly in recent decades. In the 1990s, the structure of linear tetrapyrrole, which is unambiguously a chlorophyll degradation product, was determined. From the 2000s until the 2010s, the major enzymes involved in chlorophyll degradation were identified, and the ...

Determination of major chlorophyll degradation products
Zeitschrift fr Lebensmitteluntersuchung und -Forschung A, 1997An HPLC procedure is described which enables both identification and quantitation of chlorophyll a and chlorophyll b and their major degradation products which can occur during solvent extraction of chloropigments from green plant leaves or during storage and canning of green vegetables.
