Using a portable chlorophyll meter in potato crop
The objective of this work is to study the suitability of the SPAD-602 chlorophyll meter readings to assess the nitrogen (N) status of the potato foliage through the reproductivity of the readings, variability among plants within each plot and response to the soil nitrogen availability.

Abstract In a time of extensive global biodiversity loss, conservation efforts increasingly rely on high‐resolution, accurate, up‐to‐date habitat maps to guide decision‐making and strategic interventions. Many products have been developed in response, using machine learning (ML) methods to automate habitat classification, often relying on satellite ...

Our study tests how soil and plant biodiversity can enhance sustainability of crop production in Kenya. We tested whether mixtures of maize varieties performed better than monocultures and tested their response to arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi. Mycorrhizal responsiveness differed significantly by maize variety, and genetic mixtures outperformed ...

Utility‐scale solar energy (USSE) development generates novel questions regarding coupling clean energy production with terrestrial ecosystem services (e.g., forage production, pollinator support). We found that a USSE array sited in a fallowed cropland maintained a reseeded native plant community even a decade post‐restoration and that the array ...

There is an increasing risk of drought and salinisation of soil and groundwater globally, including in Pacific Island countries such as Tonga. Irrigating crops with slightly saline water, such as that produced by emerging desalination technologies, could help to alleviate droughts.

Earth's ecosystems are experiencing wide‐ranging impacts from global climate change, including increased average and extreme temperatures. These temperature shifts can drastically affect plant physiology, threatening the future of even common plant species. Here, we focus on photosynthetic function in a native Southern California shrub species.

Exploring the links between Large Igneous Provinces and dramatic environmental impact
An emerging consensus suggests that Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) and Silicic LIPs (SLIPs) are a significant driver of dramatic global environmental and biological changes, including mass extinctions.

Estimation of lettuce shoot nitrogen via a portable spectrophotometer
Lettuce is a vegetable species with a high commercial value and a short production cycle, requiring precise management to ensure profitable production. For this, the nutritional providing is an important factor, highlining the nitrogen, a macronutrient ...

This study demonstrates that Brassica napus lines with Sinapis alba introgressions enhanced resistance against Phyllotreta cruciferae, resulting in reduced feeding damage and improved seedling physiological performance. The introgressed lines showed strong potential as genetic resources for developing more resilient and sustainable canola varieties ...
