Evaluating the relationship between leaf chlorophyll concentration and SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter readings

Photosynthesis Research, 2007
Relationships between chlorophyll concentration ([chl]) and SPAD values were determined for birch, wheat, and potato. For all three species, the relationships were non-linear with an increasing slope with increasing SPAD. The relationships for birch and wheat were strong (r (2) approximately 0.9), while the potato relationship was comparatively weak (r

Chlorophyll Meter for the Evaluation of Potato N Status

American Journal of Potato Research, 2013
Here, we propose a new approach to determine the level of plant N nutrition, based on the relationship between chlorophyll meter (CM) readings and total biomass in potato plants. The objectives of this work were i) to determine the critical curve CM (CMc) readings; ii) to establish the relationship between N nutrition index of CM (NNICM), and relative ...

Chlorophyll meter evaluation for nitrogen management in corn

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1994
Precise nitrogen (N) fertilizer management in corn requires accurate and timely analysis of plant tissue N status throughout the growing season.

Chlorophyll Meter Calibrations for Chlorophyll Content Using Measured and Simulated Leaf Transmittances

Agronomy Journal, 2014
Konica‐Minolta SPAD‐502 leaf chlorophyll meters provide a relative value of leaf chlorophyll content, and from the literature, there are considerable variations among the calibration equations between total chlorophyll contents (μg chlorophyll a + b cm−2) and SPAD‐502 values.

Low-cost chlorophyll meter (LCCM): portable measuring device for leaf chlorophyll

SPIE Proceedings, 2016
Portable leaf chlorophyll meter, named low-cost chlorophyll meter (LCCM), has been created. This device was created to help farmer determining the health condition of plant based on the greenness level of leaf surface. According to previous studies, leaf greenness with a certain amount of chlorophyll level has a direct correlation with the amount of ...

Efficiency of use of chlorophyll meter and Cardy-ion meter in potato nitrogen nutrition

Cereal research communications, 2008
Chlorophyll contents and NO3-N concentration in vegetation depend on soil nitrogen availability and crop nitrogen uptake. Crop nitrogen uptake is important as nitrogen is needed for chlorophyll formation. Sap nitrate is more sensitive to changes in N application compared to total N and the leaf petiole sap accumulate nitrates more then other parts of ...

Use of chlorophyll meter for nitrogen management in lowland rice

Fertilizer Research, 1995
The chlorophyll meter (SPAD-502) can be used to diagnose the nitrogen (N) status of rice (Oryza sativa L.) to decide for fertilizer-N side-dressing. The objective of this study was to determine the relationships between SPAD meter readings, unadjusted and adjusted for specific leaf weight (SLW) and N on dry weight basis (Ndw), N on leaf area basis (Na)

An Overview of Chlorophyll Fluorescence Measurement Process, Meters and Methods

2020 International Conference on Smart Systems and Technologies (SST), 2020
The process of photosynthesis implies the transformation of light into chemical energy in photosynthetic organisms. One of the procedures of utilizing the light reaching the plant leaf for chemical energy production is via the chlorophyll (CF) molecules that enable biochemical processes.

Chlorophyll meter readings in corn as affected by plant spacing

Communications in Soil Science and Plant Analysis, 1993
Abstract Heightened environmental consciousness has increased the perceived need to improve nitrogen (N) use efficiency by crops. Synchronizing fertilizer N availability with maximum crop N uptake has been proposed as a way to improve N‐use efficiency and protect ground water quality.

Determination of cotton nitrogen status with a handheld chlorophyll meter

Journal of Plant Nutrition, 1992
Abstract The ability of a hand‐held chlorophyll meter (SPAD‐502 Chlorophyll Meter3, Minolta Camera Co., Ltd., Japan) to determine the N status of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) was studied at field sites in Alabama and Missouri. Meter readings on the uppermost fully‐expanded leaf were compared to leaf‐blade N and petiole NO3‐N at first square, first ...
