PDM4, a Pentatricopeptide Repeat Protein, Affects Chloroplast Gene Expression and Chloroplast Development in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Extensive studies have been carried out on chloroplast gene expression and chloroplast development; however, the regulatory mechanism is still largely unknown.

Chloroplast Genome Yields Unusual Seven-Cluster Structure C [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
We studied the structuredness in a chloroplast genome of Siberian larch. The clusters in 63-dimensional space were identified with elastic map technique, where the objects to be clusterized are the different fragments of the genome. A seven-cluster structure in the distribution of those fragments reported previously has been found.

A panoramic view of cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae: From genetic architectures to precision genomic selection

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
This study identified 10 reliable quantitative trait loci (QTLs) governing cotton resistance to V. dahliae in various environments through a genome‐wide association analysis (GWAS) using an upland cotton population. The pyramid of these 10 elite alleles reduced the disease index of cotton to V. dahliae from 70 to 20.

The effect of experimental hybridization on cognition and brain anatomy: Limited phenotypic variation and transgression in Poeciliidae

open access: yesEvolution, Volume 76, Issue 12, Page 2864-2878, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Hybridization can promote phenotypic variation and often produces trait combinations distinct from the parental species. This increase in available variation can lead to the manifestation of functional novelty when new phenotypes bear adaptive value under the environmental conditions in which they occur. Although the role of hybridization as a

Chloroplast proteostasis: A story of birth, life, and death

open access: yesPlant Communications, 2023
Protein homeostasis (proteostasis) is a dynamic balance of protein synthesis and degradation. Because of the endosymbiotic origin of chloroplasts and the massive transfer of their genetic information to the nucleus of the host cell, many protein ...

Well-supported phylogenies using largest subsets of core-genes by discrete particle swarm optimization [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2017
The number of complete chloroplastic genomes increases day after day, making it possible to rethink plants phylogeny at the biomolecular era. Given a set of close plants sharing in the order of one hundred of core chloroplastic genes, this article focuses on how to extract the largest subset of sequences in order to obtain the most supported species ...

Retrograde signaling in plants: A critical review focusing on the GUN pathway and beyond

open access: yesPlant Communications, 2023
Plastids communicate their developmental and physiological status to the nucleus via retrograde signaling, allowing nuclear gene expression to be adjusted appropriately.

Seagrasses under stress: Independent negative effects of elevated temperature and light reduction at multiple levels of organization

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Seagrasses are important foundation species, which support coastal biodiversity and provide socioeconomic benefits. However, seagrasses are threatened by anthropogenic changes, including the elevated temperature associated with marine heatwaves (MHWs) and light limitation from eutrophication or increased sedimentation.

Chloroplast- or Mitochondria-Targeted DEAD-Box RNA Helicases Play Essential Roles in Organellar RNA Metabolism and Abiotic Stress Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2017
The yields and productivity of crops are greatly diminished by various abiotic stresses, including drought, cold, heat, and high salinity. Chloroplasts and mitochondria are cellular organelles that can sense diverse environmental stimuli and alter gene ...

High Spatio-Temporal-Resolution Detection of Chlorophyll Fluorescence Dynamics from a Single Chloroplast with Confocal Imaging Fluorometer [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2016
Chlorophyll fluorescence (CF) is a key indicator to study plant physiology or photosynthesis efficiency. Conventionally, CF is characterized by fluorometers, which only allows ensemble measurement through wide-field detection. For imaging fluorometers, the typical spatial and temporal resolutions are on the order of millimeter and second, far from ...
