CHLOROTHIAZIDE is a new, orally effective diuretic agent chemically related to acetazolamide. Curiously, it is a considerably less potent carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, at least in vitro and, in vivo, its effect has been found additive to that of acetazolamide as it is to the action of the mercurials.

Chlorothiazid in Diabetes Insipidus
Nature, 1959LARAGH and his co-workers1 have demonstrated that chlorothiazid administered to normal subjects in the midst of a sustained water diuresis provokes a flow of urine of substantially higher concentration for a given rate of total osmolar output than urine formed by water-loaded subjects to whom meralluride is given.
