Chlorthalidone Versus Hydrochlorothiazide
Annals of Internal Medicine, 2013TO THE EDITOR: Dhalla and colleagues state, "As typically prescribed, chlorthalidone in older adults was not associated with fewer adverse cardiovascular events or deaths than hydrochlorothiazide. Chlorthalidone: The Forgotten Diuretic
Postgraduate Medicine, 2012Chlorthalidone's safety and efficacy in the management of hypertension has been demonstrated in landmark trials. Despite understanding the effects of thiazides on urinary sodium excretion and intravascular volume, the exact mechanism of their antihypertensive effects is not clearly understood. Common compensatory mechanisms for decreases in circulating

Automated Analysis of Chlorthalidone
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 1979Chlorthalidone inhibition of the enzymatic hydrolysis rate of p-nitrophenyl acetate by bovine erythrocyte carbonic anhydrase was used as a basis for chlorthalidone determination in plasma and urine. For urinary samples, a completely automated, continuous flow system was developed to extract the samples and perform the enzymatic reaction.

Incidence of Chlorthalidone-Induced Hypercalcemia
JAMA, 1978To the Editor.— In 1974 a case of hypercalcemia secondary to the administration of chlorthalidone was reported (229:267, 1974). At that time the frequency of this phenomenon was unknown. To answer this question, 39 consecutive patients with untreated hypertension were placed on chlorthalidone therapy, 50 mg/ day.

Probable chlorthalidone-induced hypokalemic rhabdomyolysis
Journal of the American Pharmacists AssociationA case of hypokalemic rhabdomyolysis related to chlorthalidone use is reported CASE SUMMARY: A 52-year-old male was admitted to the hospital for acute onset generalized weakness and was found to have severe hypokalemia and rhabdomyolysis. The patient had been on chlorthalidone therapy with a dose increase from 25 mg daily to 50 mg daily 2 months prior ...
