Quality assurance of Chinese Herbal Medicines (CHMs)

open access: yesJournal of Food and Drug Analysis, 2020
As more and more people worldwide are using Chinese Herbal Medicines (CHMs), the safety of their use has raised international concern. Authentication and standardization of CHMs are needed. Authentication of a CHM includes both identifying its botanical origin and evaluating its pharmaceutical quality.

Classification of tree species and standing dead trees in Boreal forests using UAV‐based RGB, multispectral, and LiDAR point clouds

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
We evaluated single‐ and multi‐sensor UAV approaches for classifying tree species and standing dead trees in boreal forests, focusing on key biodiversity indicators such as European aspen. Using spectral and structural features extracted from RGB, multispectral (MSP), and LiDAR point clouds for 1,205 field‐measured trees, we compared classification ...

The Spectrum of CHM Gene Mutations in Choroideremia and Their Relationship to Clinical Phenotype

open access: yesInvestigative Opthalmology & Visual Science, 2016
We report the underlying genotype and explore possible genotypic-phenotypic correlations in a large cohort of choroideremia patients. We studied prospectively a cohort of 79 patients diagnosed within a tertiary referral service for patients with retinal dystrophies.

Using Airborne Laser Scanning and Sentinel‐2 to Understand Subcanopy Light Regimes and Understory Diversity of Vascular Plants in Temperate Mountain Forests

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that not just Airborne Laser Scanning, but also Sentinel‐2 can effectively estimate absolute canopy cover and canopy cover heterogeneity ‐ structural metrics that determine the subcanopy light regime, found to be linked to the vascular plant species richness in the understory of temperate mountain forests.

Chinese herbal medicine alleviates renal impairment induced by immunosuppressants in patients post living donor liver transplantation

open access: yesJournal of Traditional and Complementary Medicine
Background and aim: Patients post liver transplantation (LT) with long-term immunosuppression agents will suffer from renal function impairment. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has been reported to relieve chronic kidney disease progression.

Decreased overall mortality rate with Chinese herbal medicine usage in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis in Taiwan

open access: yesBMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies, 2020
Background Liver cirrhosis is one of the main causes of the morbidity and mortality in liver diseases. Chinese herbal medicine (CHM) has long been used for the clinical treatment of liver diseases.

A Comparison of Mobile Laser Scanning Data Acquisition Methods in Closed Forest, Open Woodland and Sub‐Alpine Woodland Ecosystems

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the mobile laser scanning (MLS) sampling density required to reliably characterise vegetation structure increases with a site's structural complexity. Applying a five‐level acquisition framework across open woodland, closed forest and sub‐alpine woodland ecosystems, we found that longer scanning paths increased the ...

Covalent Functionalization of NiFe Layered Double Hydroxides using Tris(Hydroxymethyl)Aminomethane

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Covalent functionalization of NiFe layered double hydroxides with tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane enables controlled growth, enhanced structural order, and improved processability. Temporary TRIS anchoring promotes stable water‐based inks and binder‐free electrode fabrication, leading to enhanced oxygen evolution activity and long‐term stability under ...
