Neighborhood “Choice Architecture”: A New Strategy for Lower-Emissions Urban Planning?

open access: yesUrban Planning, 2018
Recent advances in the field of behavioral economics offer intriguing insights into the ways that consumer decisions are influenced and may be influenced more deliberately to better meet community-wide and democratic goals.

Generative and Discriminative Voxel Modeling with Convolutional Neural Networks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
When working with three-dimensional data, choice of representation is key. We explore voxel-based models, and present evidence for the viability of voxellated representations in applications including shape modeling and object classification.

Analysis of ultrasonic transducers with fractal architecture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Ultrasonic transducers composed of a periodic piezoelectric composite are generally accepted as the design of choice in many applications. Their architecture is normally very regular and this is due to manufacturing constraints rather than performance ...

Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

This way, please: Uncovering the directional effects of attribute translations on decision making [PDF]

open access: yesJudgment and Decision Making, 2020
The translation of choice attributes into more meaningful information (e.g., from kWh to costs) is a form of choice architecture that is thought to facilitate decision making by providing decision signposts that activate personally relevant but latent ...

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Improved mutual fund investment choice architecture [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Behavioral Finance, 2017
Two choice architecture interventions were explored to debias investors’ irrational preference for mutual funds with high past returns rather than funds with low fees. A simple choice task was used involving a direct trade-off between maximizing past returns and minimizing fees.

Conjugated dendrimers: A modular approach to materials for full colour displays [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Conjugated dendrimers provide an excellent molecular architecture for tuning material properties for organic light emitting diodes. Here we demonstrate a modular approach allowing highly efficient fluorescent and phosphorescent emissive chromophores to ...

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
