High cholesterol absorption efficiency enhances proatherogenic properties of low‐density lipoprotein particles

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 299, Issue 6, Page 711-725, June 2026.
Abstract Background and Aims High cholesterol absorption efficiency is determined by genetic variation in small intestinal sterol transporters and affects one‐third of individuals. Their risk for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is increased compared with low cholesterol absorbers, despite similar serum lipid concentrations.

3β-Chloro-5α-cholestan-6-one

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E Structure Reports Online, 2012
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C27H45ClO, consists of two crystallographically independent molecules. In both molecules, the three cyclohexane rings in the steroid fused-ring systems adopt chair conformations, while the cyclopentane ring adopts a half-chair conformation in one molecule and an envelope conformation in the other.

Temperature‐Assisted Crystallization of Mustard Oil for Erucic Acid Reduction and Its Impact on Phenolic Compounds, Sterols and Oxidative Quality of Oil During Ambient Storage

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Erucic acid (EA) content of mustard oil (MO) was decreased to < 2% level using temperature‐assisted crystallization with no effect on free fatty acids (FFAs), peroxide value (PV), and color of MO and its olein and stearin variant. Olein was rich in phenolic compounds and had higher antioxidant capacity than MO and stearin.

2025 Consensus Clinical Management Guidelines for Niemann‐Pick Disease Type C

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 3, May 2026.
ABSTRACT In 2018, the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Alliance (INPDA) and the International Niemann‐Pick Disease Registry (INPDR) developed and published comprehensive clinical management guidelines to support inclusive and standardized care pathways in Niemann‐Pick disease type C (NPC)—an ultra‐rare, autosomal recessive, neurovisceral lysosomal ...

High cholesterol absorption efficiency interferes with bile acid metabolism and cholesterol elimination from the body

open access: yesJournal of Internal Medicine, Volume 299, Issue 5, Page 628-638, May 2026.
Abstract Background Elevated low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol causes atherosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. Variables of whole‐body cholesterol metabolism, for example, high cholesterol absorption efficiency, might also be atherogenic, whereas the role of bile acids is controversial.

A Comprehensive Characterization of the Phospholipid and Cholesterol Composition of the Uncinate Fasciculus in the Human Brain: Evidence of Age‐Related Alterations

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, Volume 170, Issue 4, April 2026.
The uncinate fasciculus (UF), which serves to connect the anterior temporal lobe and the orbitofrontal cortex, is a highly understudied white matter fiber bundle. In this study, we characterized the fatty acid (FA) profile of myelin phospholipids in a fraction‐specific manner, as well as the cholesterol concentrations, in the human postmortem UF.

The Carbon Number‐specific Impact of Mineral Oil Saturated Hydrocarbons on Inducing Colonic Inflammation in Female and Male Fischer 344 Rats

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 2, March 2026.
MOSH‐induced colonic alterations and sex‐specific metabolic pathways in female and male F344 rats. ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of mineral oil saturated hydrocarbon (MOSH) sub‐fractions (C20‐30 and C30‐50) on the colon of male and female F344 rats and the underlying mechanisms.

Lavender‐Oil Fusidic Acid Nanoemulgel: A Novel Strategy Against Fusidic Acid‐Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

open access: yesNano Select, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2026.
A topical Fusidic acid nanoemulgel is developed using a self‐nanoemulsifying system and optimized via ternary phase diagrams. Lavender oil enables efficient drug solubilization, while Carbopol 940 hydrogels provide favorable rheological behavior.

Reconstructing Environmental and Microbial Ecosystem Changes Across the Permian–Triassic Mass Extinction at Lusitaniadalen, Svalbard

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 2, February 2026.
Abstract The Permian–Triassic environmental crisis triggered fundamental changes in marine ecosystems, culminating in the most severe biodiversity crisis of the Phanerozoic. Yet, the environmental and geochemical conditions governing the crisis and ecosystem recovery remain debated.

Cholesteryl Fatty Acid Esters and Free Cholesterol in Food of Animal Origin

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Lipid Science and Technology, Volume 128, Issue 1, January 2026.
Cholesterol occurs in free (bioavailable) and esterified (transport/storage) forms. Here, we present a method that allows both forms to be determined independently. Finally, the quantities of free and esterified cholesterol were determined in several meat, animal fat, and cheese samples.
