Impact of Cholesterol on Voids in Phospholipid Membranes

open access: yes, 2004
Free volume pockets or voids are important to many biological processes in cell membranes. Free volume fluctuations are a prerequisite for diffusion of lipids and other macromolecules in lipid bilayers.

Differential Effects of Lipid-lowering Drugs in Modulating Morphology of Cholesterol Particles. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Treatment of dyslipidemia patients with lipid-lowering drugs leads to a significant reduction in low-density lipoproteins (LDL) level and a low to moderate level of increase in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol in plasma.

Lifestyle Behaviors and Cardiotoxic Treatment Risks in Adult Childhood Cancer Survivors

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Higher doses of anthracyclines and heart‐relevant radiotherapy increase cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk. This study assessed CVD and CVD risk factors among adult childhood cancer survivors (CCSs) across cardiotoxic treatment risk groups and examined associations between lifestyle behaviors and treatment risks.

A CYPome-wide study reveals new potential players in the pathogenesis of Parkinson’s disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2023
Genetic and environmental factors lead to the manifestation of Parkinson’s disease (PD) but related mechanisms are only rudimentarily understood. Cytochromes P450 (P450s) are involved in the biotransformation of toxic compounds and in many physiological ...

DELP Treatment on Vision and Retinal Microcirculation in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Report of Five Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The delipid extracorporeal lipoprotein filter from plasma (DELP) treatment can effectively reduce blood lipid, increase blood flow, and improve neurological deficits in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, its effect on vision and retinal microcirculation in stroke patients has never been reported.

Nonpharmacological cholesterol-lowering approach: Managing cholesterol naturally

open access: yesCHRISMED Journal of Health and Research, 2015
Cholesterol is a lipid molecule which is biosynthesized by all animal cells. Also, it is an essential structural component of cell membranes which is normally required for maintaining both fluidity and membrane structural integrity. Dyslipidemia is known

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.
