Towards the Synthesis of Cholesterol
Nature, 1947NO development of organic chemistry or of biochemistry has unfolded in a more dramatic manner in recent years than that concerned with the nature and functions of the steroids, the bile acids, and the related vitamins and hormones.

THE SYNTHESIS OF CHOLESTEROL GLUCOPYRANOSIDURONATE
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1966Cholesterol glucopyranosiduronate was synthesized by the hydrolysis of cholesterol methyl triacetyl glucopyranosiduronate with barium hydroxide under mild conditions. Some of its properties were investigated.

Dietary cholesterol, membrane cholesterol and cholesterol synthesis
Biochimie, 1991After describing the main steps of cholesterol biosynthesis the author recalls that the cholesterogenesis rate is feedback-inhibited by dietary cholesterol and examines the various processes of modulation. Hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl (HMG) CoA reductase, the key rate-limiting enzyme, is a 97 kDa endoplasmic reticulum glycoprotein, anchored 7-fold in this ...

Cholesterol Synthesis Inhibitors in Cholesterol Gallstone Disease
Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1996Cholesterol synthesis inhibitors (HMG-CoA Reductase Inhibitors) are reported to decrease cholesterol saturation index of duodenal bile in hypercholesterolaemic subjects. The dissolution of gallstones in animals on treatment with these drugs created expectations of a therapeutical role for these drugs in cholesterol gallstone disease.
