Kidney function during choline deficiency

Pathology, 1972
The relationship between kidney damage and hypertension caused by choline deficiency was studied in young male rats. Excretion of a test load of NaCl solution was used as a test of kidney function and it was found that the proportion of Na+ of the test load excreted in 4 hours decreased significantly as choline deficiency progressed.

We have reviewed the current status of our knowledge concerning the biologic effects of dietary choline (lipotrope) deficiency in modifying chemical carcinogenesis in experimental animals and discussed its possible mechanisms. Choline deficiency produces various pathologic lesions, involving virtually every organ of the body, as a result of a decrease ...

Ethanolamine on choline deficiency in rats

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1959
Abstract The addition of ethanolamine to low choline diets containing either 18 or 42% casein increased the incidence of both hemorrhagic kidneys and hemorrhagic eyes in weanling male rats consuming these diets for 7 days. At the same time the accumulation of liver fat in all animals was prevented by the added ethanolamine.
