Targeting nanoparticles to lung cancer-derived A549 cells based on changes on interstitial stiffness in biomimetic models

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The mechanical properties and forces of the extracellular environment modulate alveolar epithelial cell behavior. To model cancer/fibrosis associated stiffening and dynamic stretch, a biomimetic device was developed that imitates the active ...

Characterization of a heparan sulfate and a peculiar chondroitin 4-sulfate proteoglycan from platelets. Inhibition of the aggregation process by platelet chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1991
A high molecular weight chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan (Mr 240,000) is released from platelet surface during aggregation induced by several pharmacological agents. Some details on the structure of this compound are reported. beta-Elimination with alkali and borohydride produces chondroitin sulfate chains with a molecular weight of 40,000.

Glycosaminoglycans in human and bovine serum: detection of twenty-four heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate motifs including a novel sialic acid-modified chondroitin sulfate linkage hexasaccharide [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Heterogeneous heparan sulfate and chondroitin sulfate glycosaminoglycan (GAG) polysaccharides are important components of blood circulation. Changes in GAG quantity and structure in blood have been indicated in cancers and other human diseases.

Damage due to salt crystallization in porous media [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2009
We investigate salt crystallization in porous media that can lead to their disintegration. For sodium sulfate we show for the first time experimentally that when anhydrous crystals are wetted with water, there is very rapid growth of the hydrated form of sulfate in clusters that nucleate on anhydrous salt micro crystals.
