Cricoid Chondronecrosis: Case Report and Review of Literature

Annals of Otology, Rhinology and Laryngology, 2020
Objective: Cricoid chondronecrosis is a rare entity that has significant consequences for patients. Reports of its occurrence are scattered in the literature and currently there is no comprehensive review to help guide providers. Methods: A case report from our institution is presented.

Polyarthritis with chondronecrosis associated with osteonecrosis, panniculitis and pancreatitis

Rheumatology International, 2009
Arthritis associated with panniculitis complicating pancreatitis is well described in the literature, usually associated with osteonecrosis. Chondronecrosis has not been reported before in association with pancreatitis. We report a patient with chronic pancreatitis who presented with polyarthritis, panniculitis, osteonecrosis, but in addition had clear

Chondronecrosis of the cricoid treated with hyperbaric oxygen therapy: A case series

Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, 2023
We present two cases of cricoid chondronecrosis treated with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy. Both patients presented with biphasic stridor and dyspnea several weeks after an intubation event. Tracheostomy was ultimately performed for airway protection, followed by antibiotic treatment and outpatient HBO2 therapy.

Chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis in broilers: Further defining a bacterial challenge model using the wire flooring model

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2017
Lameness in broiler chickens is a significant animal welfare and financial issue. Bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO) leading to lameness can be enhanced by rearing young broilers on wire flooring. Using the wire floor system, we identified Staphylococcus agnetis as the predominant isolate in BCO of the proximal tibiae and femora, and ...

The utility of infrared thermography for evaluating lameness attributable to bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2019
Bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO) is a leading cause of lameness in broilers. Infrared thermography (IRT) is a noninvasive technique for measuring infrared radiation from an object and can be used to evaluate clinical health. Two replicated studies compared the effect of light intensity on broilers grown on a wire flooring model that ...

Late post radiation laryngeal chondronecrosis with pharyngooesophageal fibrosis

Indian Journal of Cancer, 2004
Chondroradionecrosis of larynx is a well recognized complication of radiation therapy, which usually occur with in the 1st year. Review of literature shows very few accounts of late radiation induced clinical chondroradionecrosis of the larynx. This condition can mimic a local recurrence and severe and life threatening involvement will require ...

Pathological and microbiological investigations into cases of bacterial chondronecrosis and osteomyelitis in broiler poultry [PDF]

open access: yesAvian Pathology, 2017
Bacterial chondronecrosis and osteomyelitis (BCO) is increasingly recognized as a major cause of lameness in commercial broilers chickens worldwide, but the pathogenesis of the condition is incompletely understood. This was a longitudinal study of 20 commercial broiler farms in Victoria, Australia, to investigate the aetiology and pathology of BCO ...

Laryngeal chondronecrosis after radiation therapy in a dog

Journal of Small Animal Practice, 2017
A 5‐year‐old pug presented with a soft tissue swelling on the ventral neck and moderate stridor with associated respiratory effort. This patient received hypofractionated radiotherapy for metastatic upper lip mast cell tumour and to the submandibular lymph nodes 6 months before presentation.

Bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis and lameness in broilers: a review

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2016
This review focuses on a specific cause of lameness known as bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO) in broilers. Rapid increases in body weight impose excessive torque and shear stress on structurally immature epiphyseal and physeal cartilage, primarily in the proximal femora, proximal tibiae, and flexible thoracic vertebrae.
