Chiral Heptagon‐Embedded Double [6]Helicenes via Scholl Reaction

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 16, 13 April 2026.
One bond makes the difference–two chiral and twisted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) show different emission behavior. The more flexible one (top) shows a double emission with one having a large anti‐Stokes shift. The two peaks are assigned to different conformers of one and the same compound.

Diffuse Large B‐Cell Lymphoma With Pulmonary and Gastric Involvement Mimicking Nontuberculous Mycobacterial Lung Disease

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
An 81‐year‐old man presented with multiple bilateral pulmonary nodules and detection of Mycobacterium intracellulare, initially suggesting nontuberculous mycobacterial lung disease. However, heterogeneous radiological changes and progressive enlargement of selected nodules led to surgical lung biopsy, which revealed diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma with ...

Soil sand content is a driving force in structuring bee communities

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 675-685, May 2026.
We conducted a carefully designed observational study across three soil sand content categories using Dalea purpurea that attracts a wide range of bee species and grows in different soil types. Soil sand content, not floral resource availability, affected patterns of bee distribution, and contrary to expectations, sandier sites did not host the highest

Phylogenetic constraints, conservatism, and convergence shape three‐dimensional variation in flower morphology of a tropical orchid radiation

open access: yesThe Plant Journal, Volume 126, Issue 3, May 2026.
SUMMARY Despite advances in phylogenetic comparative methods, challenges remain to distinguish between various macroevolutionary patterns of phenotypic variation (e.g., conservatism, convergence) and to infer their underlying proximate (genetic, developmental) or ultimate (selective versus neutral) causes.

Exploring the Environmental Sustainability of Primary Al–Air Batteries for Long‐Term Energy Storage Applications

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
An exploratory life cycle assessment compares aluminum–air batteries with gaseous and liquefied hydrogen for long‐term energy storage. The results reveal strong trade‐offs between climate benefits, resource burdens, and system efficiency, highlighting key hot spots and showing how decarbonized smelting and circular material flows can improve the ...

The Value of Forecasters‐in‐the‐Loop in Real‐Time Flood Forecasting in the Age of Machine Learning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Abstract Machine learning (ML) applications in hydrological forecasting are increasingly prevalent and show great potential. However, many previous studies have only evaluated performance through reanalysis or retrospective simulations compared to simplified baselines.

CHP and Energy Conservation

open access: yes, 1995
The principles of the use of 'combined heat and power' (CHP) for the achievement of fuel energy conservation, minimisation of environmental impact and economic advantage are explained. A distinction is made between the two types of outputs: heat and work.
