Abstract Measurement of the cutting edge of a micro drill bit presents considerable challenges due to its steep surface gradients and shape. Aiming to overcome these difficulties, a measurement system that combines a compact chromatic confocal probe, a machine vision system for pre-alignment, and a four-axis scanning stage was developed.
