Precocious centriole disengagement and centrosome fragmentation induced by mitotic delay

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
The spindle assembly checkpoint delays mitotic progression until sister chromatids are bi-oriented. Here the authors show that moderate delays in mitotic progression induce centrosome fragmentation and centriole disengagement and that spindle bipolarity ...

Phase‐Separation of YAP Mediates AJUBA Super Enhancer Activation to Promote Aberrant Mitosis in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, 9 February 2026.
YAP undergoes phase separation to activate the AJUBA super‐enhancer, driving aberrant mitosis through spindle checkpoint dysregulation in breast cancer. This study uncovers a mechanistic link between YAP condensates, super‐enhancer activation, and aneuploidy formation.

Mps1 kinase-dependent Sgo2 centromere localisation mediates cohesin protection in mouse oocyte meiosis I

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
In meiosis I centromeric cohesin is protected by Sgo2 from Separase-mediated cleavage ensuring that sister chromatids are kept together until their separation in meiosis II.

Left-right symmetry breaking in mice by left-right dynein may occur via a biased chromatid segregation mechanism, without directly involving the Nodal gene

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2012
Ever since cloning the classic iv mutation identified the ‘left-right dynein’ (lrd) gene in mice, most research on body laterality determination has focused on its function in motile cilia at the node embryonic organizer.

Epstein‐Barr Virus Expressed Long Non‐Coding RNA (lncBARTs) Regulate EBV Latent Genome Replication

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 8, 9 February 2026.
EBV produces abundant level of lncBARTs, which are essential for maintaining viral genome replication in EBV‐associated cancers. LncBARTs interact with a complex comprising BRD4, CTCF and viral protein EBNA1 at EBV oriP region. This interaction tethers oriP to host chromosomes, facilitating EBV episome replication.

Meiosis-specific distal cohesion site decoupled from the kinetochore

open access: yesNature Communications
Primary constriction of the M-phase chromosome serves as a marker for the kinetochore position. Underlying this observation is the concept that the kinetochore is spatially linked with the pericentromere where sister-chromatids are cohered. Here, we find

Non‐Coding RNAs in Breast Cancer Radioresistance: Mechanisms, Functional Roles and Translational Potentials

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 59, Issue 2, February 2026.
Non‐coding RNAs (ncRNAs) regulate breast cancer radioresistance via cell cycle, DNA repair and tumour microenvironment pathways. Targeting ncRNAs (e.g., HOTAIR and miR‐155) with RNA‐based therapies (ASOs and CRISPR) shows promise but faces delivery challenges.

Substrate accessibility regulation of human TopIIa decatenation by cohesin

open access: yesNature Communications
Human topoisomerase II alpha (TOP2α) resolves DNA intertwines between sister chromatids during mitosis. How cohesin, an SMC complex that holds sister chromatids, affects TOP2α decatenation is unclear. To addres this, we developed a quadruple-trap optical

Loss of E3 ligase HvST1 function substantially increases distal crossover frequency

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1325-1341, February 2026.
Summary This study characterizes the function of a grass‐specific E3 ubiquitin ligase, HvST1, in regulating synapsis and crossover (CO) formation during meiosis in barley (Hordeum vulgare). In large‐genome cereals, COs are predominantly restricted to distal chromosomal regions, limiting genetic recombination and breeding flexibility.
