The compound 3,3’-[(4-Hydroxyphenyl)methyl]bis-(4-hydroxy-2H-chromen-2-one) was synthesized by the Knoevenagel reaction. Crystals, suitable for X-ray data collection were grown by slow evaporation from an ethanol solution.

Photochemical synthesis of benzo[f]chromene
The one-pot photocatalytic synthesis of benzo[f]chromene was performed at room temperature by the addition of benzyl alcohol, malononitrile and β-naphthol in contact with an illuminated nano-SnO2/TiO2 composite. This study illustrated the potential of photochemical synthesis of benzo[f]chromene.
