The genome of opportunistic fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum carries a unique set of lineage-specific chromosomes [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2020
AbstractFusarium oxysporum is a cross-kingdom fungal pathogen that infects plants and humans. Horizontally transferred lineage-specific (LS) chromosomes were reported to determine host-specific pathogenicity among phytopathogenic F. oxysporum. However, the existence and functional importance of LS chromosomes among human pathogenic isolates are unknown.

Cross Kingdom Metabolic Engineering Paradigm Elevating Sustainable Protein Production

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confronting the dual crisis of escalating global protein demand and unsustainable agriculture necessitates transformative solutions. Here, we pioneer evolutionary insights from maize nitrogen optimization via asparagine synthetase (ASNS) to rewire metabolism in Pichia pastoris.

Transcriptome profiling of two maize inbreds with distinct responses to Gibberella ear rot disease to identify candidate resistance genes

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2018
Background Gibberella ear rot (GER) is one of the most economically important fungal diseases of maize in the temperate zone due to moldy grain contaminated with health threatening mycotoxins.

Chromosome-Scale Genome Assembly of Fusarium oxysporum Strain Fo47, a Fungal Endophyte and Biocontrol Agent [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular Plant-Microbe Interactions®, 2020
Here, we report a chromosome-level genome assembly of Fusarium oxysporum Fo47 (12 pseudomolecules; contig N 50 : 4.52 Mb), generated using a combination of PacBio long-read, Illumina paired end, and high-throughput chromosome conformation capture sequencing data. Although F.

Microbial Odorant Detection Guides Drosophila Parasitoids Seeking Hosts in Fermenting Fruits

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Yeast microbes in fermenting fruits attract both host flies and their parasitoid wasps. Female Leptopilina boulardi detect yeast‐emitted ethyl esters via two olfactory receptors, LbouOR167 and LbouOR136. A conserved residue, Leu159, is critical for binding these compounds, enabling female wasps to locate host‐rich habitats.

Inhibitor of Chromosome Segregation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa from Fungal Extracts

open access: yesACS Chemical Biology
Chromosome segregation is an essential cellular process that has the potential to yield numerous targets for drug development. This pathway is presently underutilized partially due to the difficulties in the development of robust reporter assays suitable for high throughput screening.

Calcineurin‐Dependent Stress Adaptation Enables Caspofungin Heteroresistance Leading to Stable Resistance in Candida Glabrata

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Caspofungin heteroresistance is prevalent in clinical Candida glabrata isolates and depends on calcineurin‐mediated stress adaptation. This transient phenotype serves as a reservoir for resistance evolution, enabling the emergence of stable resistant descendants under prolonged drug pressure.

Breeding of fungal resistant varieties derived from Grüner Veltliner by chromosomal selection [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences, 2016
Traditional cultivar Grüner Veltliner is the most appreciated vine in Austrian viticulture. Due to organic growing the demand for mildew resistance within the same wine profile has increased. Cross breeding can provide such new genotypes which combine traits from different sources by parenthood.
