Renal responses to chronic cold exposure

Canadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 2003
The aim of this study was to assess our hypothesis that the release of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), the renal concentrating response to ADH, or both is decreased by prolonged cold exposure. Six groups (n = 6/group) of rats were used. Three groups were exposed to cold (5°C), while the remaining three groups were kept at room temperature (25°C).

Models of Chronic Alcohol Exposure and Dependence

2011
Alcoholism is a chronic treatment-resistant disorder typically presenting with recurrent/cyclic periods of abusive drinking, withdrawal, abstinence, and relapse. Various strategies that attempt to model these processes in animals have been developed to elucidate the behavioral and neural processes underlying alcoholism.

Effects of chronic phthalate exposure on the kidney

Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, 1988
Several investigators have reported the finding of polycystic kidney disease (PKD) at autopsy in patients who had undergone long-term hemodialysis for renal failure due to causes other than PKD. We initiated studies to determine whether the drugs or chemicals to which patients on dialysis are exposed could be responsible for these cystic changes. Adult

Progression after chronic manganese exposure

Neurology, 1993
We report a longitudinal follow-up study on six patients with chronic manganese-induced parkinsonism following cessation of manganese exposure. Compared with the 1987 study, their parkinsonian symptoms showed a slow progression, particularly in gait disturbances such as freezing during turning and walking backward with retropulsion. The mean disability

Effects of Chronic Boron Exposure on Semen Profile

Biological Trace Element Research, 2010
The possible changes in semen quality were studied in men living in a boron mining area. The subjects in the boron group had exposure to boron at an average level of 6.5 mg/day, as determined by urinary analysis. The results obtained by the boron group were compared to those obtained for the control group whose subjects were living in the same ...

Chronic Environmental Exposure

Abstract Chronic exposure to waste anesthetic gases (WAGs) is an important occupational safety issue for anesthesia practitioners and others working in anesthetizing locations and post-anesthesia recovery units. While the results of epidemiological studies investigating the impact of WAG exposure on perioperative workers are conflicting,

Is chronic parasiticide exposure a risk?

Veterinary Record, 2020
I read with interest the letter by Christopher Little and Alistair Boxall discussing the potential environmental risks of parasiticide drugs used in companion animals ( VR , 25 January 2020, vol 186, p 97). It seems bizarre that our pets are exempt from environmental safety testing considering that they live in our personal space as well as venturing ...
