Robustness to chronic heat stress in laying hens: a meta-analysis

open access: yesPoultry Science, 2015
Chronic heat is a major stress factor in laying hens and many studies on the effect of heat stress have been published. It remains difficult, however, to draw general conclusions about the effect of chronic heat stress on performance and its relationship with genetic and environmental factors, as these studies have been done under varying experimental ...

Consistent responses of coral microbiome to acute and chronic heat stress exposures

Marine Environmental Research, 2023
Frequent and intense heat waves lead to bleaching and even death of reef-building corals, and the thermal tolerance ultimately depends on the genetic composition of the holobiont. Here, we compared the effects of acute and chronic heat stress exposures on coral Porites cylindrica holobiont.

Heat as emergency, heat as chronic stress: policy and institutional responses to vulnerability to extreme heat

Local Environment, 2016
ABSTRACTIncreasingly commonplace in cities, extreme heat events introduce multi-stress vulnerability, affecting people’s health and well-being, financial situation, mobility, social relations, and access to basic services. Planning to reduce heat vulnerability has become part of government business and to some extent community-level responses, cutting ...

Adaptation to oxidative stress and impact of chronic oxidative stress on immunity in heat-stressed broilers

Journal of Thermal Biology, 2009
Abstract 1. Glutathione peroxidase activity and serum malondialdehyde of heat-stressed broilers were increased in the early period of heat exposure, and then these parameters decreased. 2. The lesion scores of bursa of Fabricius in heat-stressed broilers were increased and decreased in accordance with the activity of glutathione peroxidase ...

The Effect of Psychic Stress Upon Dermal Permeability of Chronically Heat- and Humidity-Stressed Rats

Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1954
The effect of psychic stress upon the dermal permeability of chronically heat- and humidity-stressed rats was studied. Permeability was increased by chronic and acute psychic stress. The increase was maintained in the acutely stressed rats twenty-seven days after the stress, the last day of the study.

Transcriptional profiling of mouse liver in response to chronic heat stress

Journal of Thermal Biology, 2008
Abstract Mice were used to study the effects of chronic heat stress on hepatic gene expression. Twenty-five mice were allocated to either chronic heat stress (34 °C) or control (24 °C) conditions for a period of 2 weeks from 47 to 60 d of age. Nineteen genes differentially expressed in liver were identified using DNA microarrays.

Effects of chronic heat stress on mRNA and miRNA expressions in dairy cows

Gene, 2020
Heat stress has a negative impact on dairy cow productivity. In order to reveal the mechanisms of heat-stress response, the mRNA and miRNA expression profiles of five cows under chronic heat-stress and thermoneutral conditions were assayed in blood by high-throughput sequencing technology.

The Hydrological Urban Heat Island: Determinants of Acute and Chronic Heat Stress in Urban Streams

JAWRA Journal of the American Water Resources Association, 2021
AbstractDuring and after rainfall events, the interaction of precipitation with hot urban pavements leads to hot runoff, and its merger with urban streams can result in an abrupt change in water temperature that can harm aquatic ecosystems. To understand this phenomenon and its relation to land cover and hydrometeorological parameters, we analyzed data

Expression dynamics of HSP70 during chronic heat stress in Tharparkar cattle

International Journal of Biometeorology, 2016
Six male Tharparkar cattle aged 2-3 years were selected for the study. The animals were acclimatized in the psychrometric chamber at thermoneutral zone (TNZ) for 15 days and then exposed to 42 °C temperature up to 23 days followed by 12 days of recovery period.

Proteomic changes of the porcine skeletal muscle in response to chronic heat stress

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 2018
AbstractBACKGROUNDHeat stress (HS) has an adverse effect on meat quality; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms altering meat quality due to muscle responses to stress remain unclear. Sixteen castrated male crossbreeds between Landrace × Yorkshire sows and Duroc boars (79.00 ± 1.50 kg body weight) were exposed to either thermal neutral (22 °C, n
