Joule‐Assisted Nanotherapeutic Urethral Stent (JANUS) for Spatiotemporal Theragenerative Treatment of Urethral Strictures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Joule‐assisted nanotherapeutic urethral stent harnesses a smart, biodegradable magnesium stent to orchestrate spatiotemporal theragenerative therapy for urethral strictures. Magnetically induced Joule heating enables on‐demand drug release and bacterial ablation, while simultaneously guiding urothelial regeneration.

Multifunctional Hydroxyapatite Coated with Gallium Liquid Metal‐Based Silver Nanoparticles for Infection Prevention and Bone Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A multifunctional hydroxyapatite (HAp) coating integrated with silver‐gallium liquid metal nanoparticles (HAp‐Ag‐GaNPs) exhibits dual antibacterial and osteogenic properties. It effectively inhibits Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria, including resistant strains, while enhancing bone regeneration.

Congestive heart failure in patients with chronic kidney disease

open access: yesSrpski arhiv za celokupno lekarstvo, 2014
Cardiovascular disorders are the most frequent cause of death (46-60%) among patients with advanced chronic renal failure (CRF), and on dialysis treatment. Uremic cardiomyopathy is the basic pathophysiologic substrate, whereas ischemic heart disease (IHD) and anemia are the most important contributing factors. Associated with well-know risk

Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

APOL1 Genotype, Proteinuria, and the Risk of Kidney Failure: A Secondary Analysis of the AASK (African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension) and CRIC (Chronic Renal Insufficiency Cohort) StudiesPlain-Language Summary

open access: yesKidney Medicine, 2022
Rationale & Objective: Patients with a high-risk Apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) genotype are more likely to develop chronic kidney disease and kidney failure. It is unclear whether this increased risk is entirely mediated by the development of proteinuria.

Etiology of chronic renal failure in Jenin district, Palestine

open access: yesSaudi Journal of Kidney Diseases and Transplantation, 2012
A study was conducted on chronic renal failure patients treated by medications or by hemodialysis at The Martyr Dr. Khalil Sulaiman Hospital in Jenin city, Palestine, from 1/8/2005 to1/8/2006 to know the underlying etiology of chronic renal failure.

The role of zinc in renal pathological changes in diabetic status [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Diabetes mellitus (DM) was the 8th leading cause of death in 2011, resulting in 1.4 million deaths worldwide. One of the complications of DM is chronic kidney disease, which accounts for nearly 44% of all new cases of kidney failure in the US in 2011 ...

Machine Learning‐Enabled Polymer Discovery for Enhanced Pulmonary siRNA Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study provides an efficient approach to train a machine learning model by merging heterogeneous literature data to predict suitable polymers for siRNA delivery. Without the need for extensive laboratory synthesis, the machine learning enabled a virtual screening and successfully predicted a polymer that is validated for effective gene silencing in

Synthetic Strategy for mRNA Encapsulation and Gene Delivery with Nanoscale Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This research utilizes the ZIF‐8 for the encapsulation and intracellular delivery of nucleic acids, specifically mRNA, for applications in gene delivery. Integrating PEI addresses the issue of mRNA leakage from ZIF‐8, resulting in the delivery and expression of green fluorescent protein (GFP) in vitro and firefly luciferase in vivo.
