Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 regulates cell adhesion and membrane protrusive activity of ovarian cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP9) drives ovarian cancer progression. Using MMP9‐null cells (M9‐KO) created from ovarian cancer cells, we found MMP9 loss did not block Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF)‐driven E‐cadherin dissolution or EMT but delayed and reduced EGF‐driven membrane protrusions. Transient MMP9 re‐expression drove membrane protrusion.

A leukemia-protective germline variant mediates chromatin module formation via transcription factor nucleation

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
Non-coding variants can regulate transcription factor binding and gene expression at variable chromatin modules. Here, the authors show that a germline variant induces transcription factor nucleation through chromatin compaction leading to AXIN2 up ...

One size does not fit all: An in vitro evaluation of the effects of bezafibrate and medroxyprogesterone acetate on human SH‐SY5Y and U‐87 MG cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.

BCR activated CLL B cells use both CR3 (CD11b/CD18) and CR4 (CD11c/CD18) for adhesion while CR4 has a dominant role in migration towards SDF-1.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) is the most common leukaemia in the western world. In previous studies, various proportion of patients was found to carry CD11b+ or CD11c+ B cells whose presence was an unfavourable prognostic factor.

Invariant NKT cells contribute to chronic lymphocytic leukemia surveillance and prognosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is characterized by the expansion of malignant CD5(+) B lymphocytes in blood, bone marrow and lymphoid organs. CD1d-restricted invariant Natural Killer T (iNKT) cells are innate-like T lymphocytes strongly implicated in

Immune‐Driven Expression in Inclusion Body Myositis With T‐Cell Large Granular Lymphocytic Leukemia

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives T‐cell large granular lymphocytic leukemia (T‐LGLL), reported in up to 58% of inclusion body myositis (IBM) patients, is a rare leukemia of cytotoxic or less commonly helper T cells. The range of myopathies in T‐LGLL and the impact of coexisting T‐LGLL in IBM are not well understood. Our objectives are to investigate the spectrum of

Long-term efficacy and safety of first-line ibrutinib treatment for patients with CLL/SLL: 5 years of follow-up from the phase 3 RESONATE-2 study. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
RESONATE-2 is a phase 3 study of first-line ibrutinib versus chlorambucil in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)/small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL). Patients aged ≥65 years (n = 269) were randomized 1:1 to once-daily ibrutinib 420 mg continuously or ...

Protective role of Bruton tyrosine kinase inhibitors in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and COVID‐19

open access: yesBritish Journal of Haematology, 2020
Severe cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are usually accompanied by an exuberant immune response comparable to cytokine release syndrome (CRS), with markedly elevated serum levels of proinflammatory cytokines which are thought to be a major ...
