Prevalence, diagnosis and relation to tobacco dependence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in a nationally representative population sample

open access: yes, 2006
Background: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ( COPD) is the fourth most common cause of death worldwide. It is caused primarily by cigarette smoking.

Heterojunction‐Engineered Mass Spectrometry Platform for Deciphering Serum Metabolic Fingerprints in Diagnosis of Respiratory Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hollow Co3O4/TiO2 heterojunctions are engineered for high‐throughput laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry. The built‐in electric field drives efficient charge separation and photothermal conversion, while the hierarchical mesoporous network enables robust salt and protein tolerance.

Geographic distribution of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease hospitalisations in Australia: 2007-08 to 2009-10 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This report shows how asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) hospitalisations vary across Australia. It also examines the association between these hospitalisation rates and socioeconomic status (SES), remoteness and the proportion of

Targeting ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 Ameliorates Diabetic Kidney Disease by Reducing Lipotoxicity, Alleviating Inflammation and Inhibiting Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dual targeting of ANGPTL3 and IL‐33/ST2 attenuates diabetic kidney disease by reprogramming lipid–inflammatory crosstalk. This strategy reduces renal lipotoxicity, suppresses inflammatory activation, and limits fibrotic remodeling, thereby preserving kidney structure and function and highlighting a mechanism‐guided therapeutic approach for metabolic ...

Analysis of airway secretions in a model of sulfur dioxide induced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

open access: yes, 2006
Hypersecretion and chronic phlegm are major symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) but animal models of COPD with a defined functional hypersecretion have not been established so far.

An Integrated DNA Nanoprobe for Intranuclear Imaging and in Situ Profiling of OGG1 Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The TP‐SA nanoprobe, integrating an AS1411 aptamer for nuclear delivery and a FRET array for signal amplification, enables real‐time tracking of nuclear OGG1 activity. It reveals cell‐line‐specific basal OGG1 levels and shows clinical promise using pneumonia patients’ lavage fluid.

Association of single-nucleotide polymorphism with spirometry indices and pulmonary ventilation characteristics in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Objectives Genome-wide association studies have identified FAM13A as a gene linked to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Several single-nucleotide polymorphisms—notably, rs7671167, rs2869967, rs2869966, and rs17014601—are associated with chronic ...

A Foundation Model Based CT Biomarker for Non‐Invasive Prediction of Response to Neoadjuvant Immunochemotherapy in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces a foundation model‐based biomarker for risk stratification of pathological response in non‐small cell lung cancer. A Vision Mamba super‐resolution model standardizes heterogeneous CT images. A multi‐task Swin Transformer then fine‐tunes a pre‐trained lung foundation model to jointly optimize tumor segmentation and response ...

Respiratory medication use in Australia 2003–2013: treatment of asthma and COPD [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This report describes patterns of dispensing of respiratory medications in Australia through detailed analyses of Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme data, as well as other sources, to draw inferences about respiratory medication use among patients with ...
