In vivo and in silico screening for antimicrobial compounds from cyanobacteria

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 11, Issue 2, April 2022., 2022
Due to the emerging rise of multi‐drug resistant bacteria, the discovery of novel antibiotics is of interest. Through their high chemodiversity of bioactive secondary metabolites, cyanobacteria have proven to be promising microorganisms for the discovery of antimicrobial compounds. This review deals with the screening, including in vivo approaches like

The influence of microbial mats on travertine precipitation in active hydrothermal systems (Central Italy)

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 8, Issue 1, Page 165-209, February 2022., 2022
Three active travertine sites were investigated in Central Italy to identify the types of carbonate precipitates and the associated microbial mats at varying physico‐chemical parameters. This study confirms that microbial communities in hydrothermal settings vary as a function of water temperature.

Temporal and Depth-Driven Variability of Pelagic Bacterial Communities in Lake Erie: Biofilm and Plankton Dynamics. [PDF]

open access: yesEnviron Microbiol Rep
Biofilm and planktonic bacterial communities in Lake Erie's western basin show distinct compositions, with only ~10% shared ASVs. While plankton communities remain consistent across depths, biofilms exhibit depth‐ and time‐dependent variability, with early‐summer communities differing before converging in late summer.

Molecular and Immunological Methods to Confirm Toxiginicity (Microcystin Production) of Westiellopsis Prolifica Isolated from Tigris River – Iraq

open access: yesمجلة بغداد للعلوم, 2019
Several toxigenic cyanobacteria produce the cyanotoxin (microcystin). Being a health and environmental hazard, screening of water sources for the presence of microcystin is increasingly becoming a recommended environmental procedure in many countries of ...

Highly effective, regiospecific reduction of chalcone by cyanobacteria leads to the formation of dihydrochalcone: two steps towards natural sweetness

open access: yesMicrobial Cell Factories, 2017
Background Chalcones are the biogenetic precursors of all known flavonoids, which play an essential role in various metabolic processes in photosynthesizing organisms. The use of whole cyanobacteria cells in a two-step, light-catalysed regioselective bio-

Taxonomic History and State of Knowledge of the Marine Species in Nostocales (Cyanoprokaryote) From the Mexican Atlantic

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 8, August 2025.
In this manuscript we contribute a revision of Cyanoprokaryotes Nostocales in the Gulf of Mexico and the Mexican Caribbean; the list of species was updated taxonomically. Also, the historical analysis of their taxonomy was carried out. ABSTRACT Cyanoprokaryotes are organisms that perform oxygenic photosynthesis.

Nature of Phytoplankton Communities in the Southern Hemisphere Shallow Lakes, With an Emphasis on the Presence of Submerged Aquatic Vegetation: A Review

open access: yesAquaculture, Fish and Fisheries, Volume 5, Issue 3, June 2025.
ABSTRACT Differences in the ecological stability of shallow lakes are reflected in the functional nature of the distinct phytoplankton communities in the Southern Hemisphere. Recent studies have highlighted growing uncertainties of the previous concepts regarding phytoplankton cosmopolitanism, suggesting these communities may be more regionally ...
