Evolutionary Relationships of Courtship Songs in the Parasitic Wasp Genus, Cotesia (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Acoustic signals play an important role in premating isolation based on sexual selection within many taxa. Many male parasitic wasps produce characteristic courtship songs used by females in mate selection.

Indirect plant defense may provide economically important pest suppression in sorghum

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 81, Issue 11, Page 7478-7488, November 2025.
Laboratory measures of sorghum direct and indirect plant resistance traits aligned with natural enemy recruitment and pest suppression in the field. Abstract BACKGROUND A promising strategy to optimize biological control of insect pests is selecting crop varieties with indirect defense traits.

Effect of different artificial diets on the biology of adult green lacewing (Chrysoperla carnea Stephens.) [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2006
Chrysoperla carnea (Green lacewing) is voracious predator of insect eggs and varieties of soft-bodied arthropods such as caterpilllars, aphids, jassids and mealy bugs.

Semi‐tilling maintains the arthropod food web structure but decreases biological pest control in olive groves

open access: yesAnnals of Applied Biology, Volume 187, Issue 3, Page 345-355, November 2025.
Semi‐tillage, a widely used agricultural method to improve water availability and minimise soil erosion in crops, may compromise pest control in olive groves. Stable isotopes (N15 and C13) analysis showed an effect of semi‐tillage in the composition of the basal resources of potential natural enemies in the three olive grove strata: These changes may ...

Toxic effect of pesticides on the larvae of Chrysoperla carnea.

open access: yesKyushu Plant Protection Research, 1997
The toxic effect of 34 insecticides, 6 acaricides and 9 fungicides on the 1st instar larvae of Chrysoperla carnea (STEPHENS) were tested by two methods, a direct dipping test and a residual contact test, at 25±1°C in the laboratory. In the former method, larvae were dipped in aqueous dilutions of the pesticide.

The conservatism of prairie pollinators according to experts and empiricism

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 917-927, November 2025.
We derived ecological conservatism values for prairie pollinators using expert opinion and analysis of remnant fidelity. Expert values were potentially biased and struggled to differentiate between remnant and non‐remnant prairie sites Empirical values showed advantages for pollinator‐based site assessment and prioritization in prairie regions ...

The importance of alternative host plants as reservoirs of the cotton leaf hopper, Amrasca devastans, and its natural enemies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Many agricultural pests can be harboured by alternative host plants but these can also harbour the pests’ natural enemies. We evaluated the capacity of non-cotton plant species (both naturally growing and cultivated) to function as alternative hosts for ...
