Emerging trends in the sea state of the Beaufort and Chukchi seas [PDF]

open access: yesOcean Modelling, 2016
The sea state of the Beaufort and Chukchi seas is controlled by the wind forcing and the amount of ice-free water available to generate surface waves. Clear trends in the annual duration of the open water season and in the extent of the seasonal sea ice minimum suggest that the sea state should be increasing, independent of changes in the wind forcing.

Prospects of gas hydrate presence in the Chukchi sea

open access: yesЗаписки Горного института, 2017
The purpose of this study is to forecast the scale and distribution character of gas hydrate stability zone in the Chukchi Sea under simulated natural conditions and basing on these results to estimate resource potential of gas hydrates within this area.

Applying landscape fragmentation analysis to icescape environments: potential impacts for the Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens)

open access: yesPolar Research, 2022
Sea-ice cover across the Arctic has declined rapidly over the past several decades owing to amplified climate warming. The Pacific walrus (Odobenus rosmarus divergens) relies on sea-ice floes in the St. Lawrence Island (SLI) and Wainwright regions of the

Interannual Variability of Salinity in the Chukchi Sea and Its Relationships with the Dynamics of the East Siberian Current during 1993–2020

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
The interannual features of the salinity in the Chukchi Sea during the ice-free period of a year are investigated on the base of Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite measurements and GLORYS12v1 reanalysis data.

Structure of planktonic community in the southern part of the Chukchi Sea in summer period

open access: yesИзвестия ТИНРО, 2014
Results of plankton and oceanographic surveys conducted by Pacific Fish. Res. Center (TINRO) in the southern Chukchi Sea in August-September of 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2010 are presented. Plankton samples were collected by Juday BSD net (mesh size 0.168 mm)

Dissolved organic matter composition and bioavailability reflect ecosystem productivity in the Western Arctic Ocean [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2012
Dissolved organic carbon (DOC) and total dissolved amino acids (TDAA) were measured in high (Chukchi Sea) and low (Beaufort Sea) productivity regions of the western Arctic Ocean to investigate the composition and bioavailability of dissolved organic ...

Modeling ringed seal Pusa hispida habitat and lair emergence timing in the eastern Bering and Chukchi Seas

open access: yesEndangered Species Research, 2021
Ringed seals Pusa hispida are reliant on snow and sea ice for denning, and a better understanding of ringed seal habitat selection and timing of emergence from snow dens (also called lairs) is needed to quantify and predict effects of climate change in ...

A THREE-DIMENSIONAL MODEL OF BERING AND CHUKCHI SEA

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1982
A part of the continental shelf area of the Bering and Chukchi Sea are now being opened up for oil exploration. For engineering and ecological risk analyses, extensive field data collection efforts are being carried out by various United States agencies and petroleum corporations to understand the hydrodynamic behavior of this vast offshore area.

Concentration maxima of volatile organic iodine compounds in the bottom layer water and the cold, dense water over the Chukchi Sea in the western Arctic Ocean: a possibility of production related to the degradation of organic matter [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2016
We conducted a shipboard observation over the Chukchi Sea and the Canada Basin in the western Arctic Ocean in September and October 2012 to obtain vertical distributions of four volatile organic iodine compounds (VOIs) in seawater.
