Isolation and characterization of chum salmon growth hormone
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1986Two molecular forms of salmon growth hormone (sGH), sGH I and II, have been isolated from the pituitary glands of the chum salmon (Oncorhynchus keta); a two-step extraction procedure, under alkaline (pH 10) conditions, subsequent to acid-acetone extraction was employed for extraction of the sGHs. They were then purified by iso-electric precipitation at

Assignment of Disulfide Linkages in Chum Salmon Stanniocalcin
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1999Stanniocalcin (STC) is a hypocalcemic glycoprotein hormone secreted by the corpuscles of Stannius, endocrine glands unique to the bony fishes. Recently, two cDNAs encoding proteins, STC-1 and STC-2, homologous to fish STC have been identified in humans and rodents.

Cryopreservation of chum salmon blastomeres by the straw method
Cryobiology, 2002In order to preserve genetic resources of chum salmon, Oncorhynchus keta, optimum conditions for cryopreservation of isolated blastomeres were investigated. Survival rates under various conditions were compared: the nature and the concentration of cryoprotectants before and after freezing, the seeding temperature, and the developmental stages of donor ...

Cysteine Protease Inhibitor in Egg of Chum Salmon
The Journal of Biochemistry, 1991Two different cysteine protease inhibitors (Forms I and II) were isolated from chum salmon egg, and their molecular weights were found to be 16,000 and 11,000, respectively. When the N-terminal amino acid sequences of Forms I and II were compared, 67% of the residues were identical but no apparent homology was found between these inhibitors and ...

Molecular Cloning and Gene Expression of Chum Salmon Cystatin
Journal of Biochemistry, 1996A salmon cystatin cDNA clone was isolated from a chum salmon cDNA library. The clone encoded a full-length extracellular-type cystatin and its signal peptide and included 5'- and 3'-untranslated regions. The deduced amino acid sequence showed a high degree of sequence similarity to mammalian cystatin C, chicken egg cystatin, and chum salmon pituitary ...

DNA homologies between the rainbow trout, chum salmon and coho salmon
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1985The thermal stabilities of hybrid duplexes between the DNAs from three salmonid fish species were monitored as measures of DNA homology. The chum salmon, Oncorhynchus keta, and coho salmon, Oncorhynchus kisutch, had more DNA homology with each other than either had with the rainbow trout, Salmo gairdnerii.

Microsatellite variability in chum salmon of Primorye
Russian Journal of Genetics, 2017In this study, 12 samples of chum salmon from the southern and central parts of Primorye were studied with ten microsatellite loci. All studied localities of chum salmon of Primorye formed three main genetically different groups: (1) the Narva–Barabashevka–Ryazanovka cluster of southern Primorye, (2) Kievka River, and (3) Avvakumovka River.

Fisheries
The content of Fe, Zn, Cu, Ni, Cd, Pb, and Mn in fertilized caviar, pink salmon and chum salmon larvae and larvae from three fish hatcheries in the Sakhalin region before feeding, as well as in chum salmon larvae from spawning mounds from natural spawning grounds, was studied; the microelement composition of zygotes was compared with the gametes of ...

Characterization of melanin-concentrating hormone in chum salmon pituitaries
Nature, 1983Many lower vertebrates exhibit colour change in response to the background. A dual hormonal control of colour change by two antagonistic pituitary melanophorotropic hormones was first postulated in amphibia by Hogben and Slome. It is well established that the melanotropins alpha- and beta-MSH are responsible for pigment dispersion in the integumentary ...

A radioimmunoassay for N-terminal peptide of chum salmon proopiocortin
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 1987A highly specific radioimmunoassay was developed for N-terminal peptide of salmonid proopiocortin using a guinea pig antiserum to the chum salmon peptide (sNPP 1). Since sNPP I has no tyrosine residue nor free N-terminal amino group, a mixture of minor components of sNPP 1, which have extensions of H-Val-LysGly- and H-Lys-Gly- at the N-terminus, were ...
