An Experimental Investigation of Churning Power Losses of a Gearbox

open access: yesVolume 10: 2017 ASME International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, 2017
In this study, load-independent (spin) power losses of a gearbox operating under dip-lubrication conditions are investigated experimentally using a final-drive helical gear pair from an automotive transmission as the example system. A dedicated gearbox is developed to operate a single gear or a gear pair under given speed and temperature conditions.

Power loss analysis in altered tooth-sum spur gearing

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
The main cause of power loss or dissipation of heat in case of meshed gears is due to friction existing between gear tooth mesh and is a major concern in low rotational speed gears, whereas in case of high operating speed the power loss taking place due ...

Divergent genome evolution caused by regional variation in DNA gain and loss between human and mouse. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2018
The forces driving the accumulation and removal of non-coding DNA and ultimately the evolution of genome size in complex organisms are intimately linked to genome structure and organisation. Our analysis provides a novel method for capturing the regional

Improving efficiency in drive lines : an experimental study on churning losses in hypoid axle

open access: yes, 2010
The research concerns improvement of the power efficiency of lubricated components in automotive drivelines such as transmissions and axles. Meshed gear pairs, rolling bearings, seals and oil churning by rotating components immersed in the oil are ...

Influence of the Lubricant Temperature of Splashed Lubricated Worm Gearbox on Churning Power Losses

open access: yesITEGAM-JETIA
The primary goal of lubricating a worm gearbox is to encourage sliding between teeth, which lowers the coefficient of friction and regulates the temperature rise brought on by rolling and sliding friction. Due to both non-load-dependent and load-

Thermal Performance Evaluation in Gas Turbine Aero Engines Accessory Gearbox

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2020
This paper presents a methodological approach for mathematical modelling and physics-based analysis of accessory gearbox (AGB) thermal behavior in gas turbine aero engines. The AGB structure, as one of the main sources of heat in gas turbine aero engines,

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

The extent and cyclicality of career changes:Evidence for the UK [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Using quarterly data for the U.K. from 1993 through 2012, we document that the extent of worker reallocation across occupations or industries (a career change, in the parlance of this paper) is high and procyclical.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
