Resolution of Traumatic Hypertrophic Periodontoid Cicatrix after Posterior Cervical Fusion

Neurosurgery, 1995
The case of a 38-year-old man with delayed myelopathy 19 years after a nontreated odontoid type II fracture is reported. Magnetic resonance imaging of the craniocervical region revealed a periodontoid cicatrix. The clinical syndrome improved, and complete resolution of the retro-odontoid mass was achieved 9 months after posterior cervical fixation. The

Occipitocervical fusion for reduction of traumatic periodontoid hypertrophic cicatrix

Journal of Neurosurgery, 1990
✓ Periodontoid hypertrophic cicatrix resulting from trauma, as demonstrated by magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, is essentially the same as that seen in rheumatoid arthritis. Recent reports suggest that, in rheumatoid arthritis, occipitocervical fusion without transoral decompression of the pannus is adequate for resolution of this anterior lesion.

Clinical effect of tranilast on hypertrophic cicatrix.

Nishi Nihon Hifuka, 1989

[Comparative study of collagen in hypertrophic and keloid cicatrix].

Voprosy meditsinskoi khimii, 1997
The relative percentage of type III to type I collagen, the ratio of alpha 1(I) to alpha 2(I) collagen chains and the ratio of dimers (beta-chains) to monomers (alpha-chains) in type I collagen have been measured in solubilized collagen fractions from keloids and hypertrophic scars aged about 1-7 years after burn.

[Protocol for the treatment of hypertrophic cicatrix with silastic gel. First results].

Cirugia pediatrica : organo oficial de la Sociedad Espanola de Cirugia Pediatrica, 1993
Functional limitation and scarring use to be common sequelaes of a burns injury in children. We report our initial experience with silicone gel (silastic gel shetting) in the treatment of 15 children with hypertrophic scars, without success to other alternatives therapies. Improvements in texture, colour and height of the lesion were noted in all cases.
