This chapter describes the taxonomy of ciliates. Ciliates can be found in almost every environment; the majority of species, however, are aquatic and occur in marine, brackish, and freshwater habitats.

Evolution of Physical Intelligence Across Scales
By following the evolution of physical intelligence across scales, this article shows how intelligence arises from materials, structures, physical interactions, and collectives. It establishes physical intelligence as the evolutionary foundation upon which embodied intelligence is built.

Cteno‐Bot: An Untethered Metachronally Swimming Robot With Magnetoactive Propulsors
We present Cteno‐bot, an untethered ctenophore‐inspired robot which swims using metachronally coordinated appendages. A single mechanism controls up to 216 magnetoactive propulsors via a dynamically varying magnetic field. We show that the swimming speed of the robot can be increased without a corresponding increase in power requirement, simply by ...

Small‐Scale Magnetic Peristaltic Soft Robot With Mobility and Transport Capabilities
This study introduces a miniature, untethered soft magnetic microrobot with peristaltic capabilities for both locomotion and cargo transport. Eight helically magnetized elastomeric strips deform under rotating fields (10–80 mT, 1–5 Hz), enabling movement across rods and lumina at up to 4.1 body lengths min‐¹.

Streamlining Diagnosis of Bardet–Biedl Syndrome: New Diagnostic Algorithm With Updated Criteria
ABSTRACT Considerable advances have been made in our understanding of Bardet–Biedl syndrome (BBS), particularly in its core clinical features and molecular genetics, warranting an update to the existing diagnostic criteria framework. Using a rigorous, evidence‐based, and consensus‐driven process, a multidisciplinary group of international experts and ...

Зародышевое сходство в онтогенезе инфузорий (Ciliophora)
В статье рассматриваются особенности онтогенеза подвижных и прикрепленных инфузорий. Показано, что зародышерое сходство проявляется как у подвижных, так и у сидячих форм.

Experimental evidence for crustacean zooplankton grazing activity on mixotrophic ciliates [PDF]
With their ultraoligotrophic status, the Chilean North Patagonian lakes have mixotrophic ciliates in their pelagic environments as producers, whereas the primary consumers are crustaceans that are low in abundance and species numbers.
