Parasitologicalassessment and host-parasite relationship in farmed Cachara catfish fingerlings (Pseudoplatystoma reticulatum Eigenmann & Eigenmann 1889), Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Farmed fingerlings of South American catfish are frequently exposed to several parasites, but little information is available for implementing health programs for control and prevention of parasitic diseases in the hatcheries.

18S rRNA Metagenomic Analysis of Nodular Gill Disease in Swiss Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, Volume 48, Issue 3, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Nodular gill disease (NGD) is a serious proliferative gill condition that affects farmed salmonids, particularly in Europe. While the cause of NGD remains unknown (and maybe multifactorial), various amoebae are often isolated from the gills of affected fish and can in some cases be seen associated with lesions by histopathology.

Parasite diversity in Oxydoras niger (Osteichthyes: Doradidae) from the basin of Solimões River, Amazonas state, Brazil, and the relationship between monogenoidean and condition factor. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study describes the parasitic fauna of Oxydoras niger from the Coari Lake, tributary of the medium Solimões River, State of Amazonas, Brazil, and the relationship between the number of Monogenoidea and the condition factor.

Macroalgal Biofilm Harbours a Wide Diversity of Parasitic Protists With Distinct Temporal Dynamics

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 5, March 2025.
ABSTRACT Marine macroalgae surfaces create a nutrient‐rich environment that promotes the formation of epiphyte biofilms. Biofilms are complex systems that facilitate ecological interactions within the community, yet parasitism remains largely unexplored.

Commodity risk assessment of Populus alba, Populus nigra and Populus tremula plants from the UK

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 3, March 2025.
Abstract The European Commission requested the EFSA Panel on Plant Health to prepare and deliver risk assessments for commodities listed in Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2018/2019 as ‘High risk plants, plant products and other objects’. This Scientific Opinion covers plant health risks posed by plants of Populus alba, Populus nigra and ...

Untangling the Complexity of Climate Change Effects on Plant Reproductive Traits and Pollinators: A Systematic Global Synthesis

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 31, Issue 2, February 2025.
Climate change is shifting flowering and animal activity times across ecosystems, potentially increasing the risk of plant–pollinator mismatches. Flower production and plant reproductive success showed varied responses to climate change depending on the ecosystem, whereas nectar rewards declined and floral scents increased or changed under warming and ...

Parasites in Curimata cyprinoides (Characiformes: Curimatidae) from eastern Amazon, Brazil. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This work is the first study on parasitic fauna of Curimata cyprinoides Linnaeus, 1766 (Curimatidae) and the host-parasite relationship. The total of 154,740 parasites such as Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ciliophora), trophozoite of Spironucleus sp ...

Microclimatic variation regulates seed germination phenology in alpine plant communities

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 1, Page 249-262, January 2025.
This study combines novel laboratory experimentation based on detailed field microclimatic data to tackle the understudied topic of germination phenology in alpine habitats. The findings suggest a predictable phenological shift in the germination of alpine plants along microclimatic gradients.

Comparative Analysis of Protist Communities in Oilsands Tailings Using Amplicon Sequencing and Metagenomics

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 1, January 2025.
Protist diversity in oilsands‐associated environments has been used as a reclamation indicator, primarily assessed using the V4 barcode. This study indicates that the V9 barcode identifies previously undetected Amoebozoa, Discoba and Metamonada OTUs, particularly in anaerobic oilsands environments.
