Mendelian Randomization and Double Machine Learning Modeling Reveal Brain Imaging‐Derived Phenotypes as Functional Contributors to 18 Autoimmune Inflammatory Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This schematic integrates the eight statistically significant causal relationships identified between 1,366 brain imaging‐derived phenotypes (IDPs) and 18 autoimmune inflammatory diseases (AIDs). Arrows indicate the direction of causality inferred from bidirectional two‐sample MR analyses.

Neural computations underlying action-based decision making in the human brain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Action-based decision making involves choices between different physical actions to obtain rewards. To make such decisions the brain needs to assign a value to each action and then compare them to make a choice.

Cytosolic Phosphoenoylpyruvate Carboxykinase Deficiency: Clinical, Biochemical, and Genetic Features of Five Non‐Finnish Patients

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cytosolic phosphoenoylpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK‐C) is an essential, rate‐limiting enzyme in the gluconeogenesis pathway. PEPCK‐C deficiency presents with hypoglycaemia, hyperlactataemia and hepatopathy, and was first reported in association with bi‐allelic PCK1 variants in 2014.

Die Rolle der Zielnähe und der investierten Anstrengung für den erwarteten Wert einer Handlung [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
In human neuroscientific research, there has been an increasing interest in how the brain computes the value of an anticipated outcome. However, evidence is still missing about which valuation related brain regions are modulated by the proximity to an ...

Neural Signatures of Value Comparison in Human Cingulate Cortex during Decisions Requiring an Effort-Reward Trade-off

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2016
Integrating costs and benefits is crucial for optimal decision-making. Although much is known about decisions that involve outcome-related costs (e.g., delay, risk), many of our choices are attached to actions and require an evaluation of the associated ...

Differential roles of EA‐TRAPed cells in the anterior cingulate cortex across various intervention times in inflammatory pain

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
The cumulative effect of EA analgesia is partially attributed to the activation of EA‐TRAPed cells in ACC. Multiple EA sessions and single EA sessions activated different neuronal populations in the ACC. The enhanced analgesic effect of multiple EA sessions may be attributed to an increase in the proportion of GABAergic neurons within the ACC. Abstract

Association between Human Leukocyte Antigen Alleles and Neuropathological Outcomes in Lewy Body Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Lewy body disease (LBD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of misfolded α‐synuclein in the brain. Neuroinflammation has long been implicated in LBD pathogenesis, and recent genetic studies in Parkinson's disease (a clinical manifestation of LBD) have shown consistent association with the human leukocyte ...
