The cingulate cortex and gastric pathology
Brain Research Bulletin, 1982Bilateral lesions in the anterior or posterior cingulate cortex were performed in rats. After a recovery period, the rats were immobilized for 24 hours. Results showed that posterior lesions increased the severity of the stomach pathology under restraint and non-restraint conditions.

Anterior cingulate cortex and insomnia: A cingulate-striatum connection
NeuronInsomnia is an important comorbidity of chronic pain. In this issue of Neuron, Li et al. report that chronic-pain-induced insomnia is mediated by the pyramidal neurons in the anterior cingulate cortex and their dopaminergic projections to the dorsal medial striatum.

Cingulate cortex in Parkinson's disease
2019Once a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD) has been made, even in its earliest prodromal form of subjective memory impairment, cognitive impairment has begun and involves anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). While the Braak staging scheme showed mid- to later-stage PD progression from cingulate allocortex adjacent to the corpus callosum and progressing ...

The cingulate cortex: divided in pain
Nature Neuroscience, 2017The discovery of a circuit from the midcingulate cortex to the posterior insula that is essential for cortical sensitization sheds light on the plasticity mechanisms responsible for the transition from acute to chronic pain.

The cingulate cortex and spatial neglect
2019Spatial neglect is asymmetric attention, orienting, and action causing functional disability. It is linked to higher-order cortical sensory processing; however, spatial motor "Aiming" processing is critical to fundamental, adaptive environmental movement and daily life function.

Cingulate cortex in pre-MCI cognition
2019Studies of Alzheimer's disease over the years have focused on the prodromal stage, or mild cognitive impairment (MCI), in order to understand its evolution and to diagnose this pathology early. More recently, research has focused on an even earlier stage (pre-MCI) characterized in particular by a cognitive complaint.
